The LOG Royal Canadian Legion Comox Branch 160 News and Events December 2020 In the Heart of 1825 Comox Ave. Downtown Comox Comox, BC V9M 3M3 BRANCH 160 COMOX
Season’s Greetings from your Executive 2020 has been an exceptional year. This Christmas season will be unique in many ways. The pandemic, which seems to be never ending and politicized has cast a long shadow over the year. Hopefully you and your family are well and have avoided getting Covid-19 or recovered from it. For all those families and friends who lost someone they loved to this dreaded disease, this Christmas will be especially difficult. Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost someone this year. On a more positive note, we were able to accomplish the renovation of the Branch 160 Lounge. It took a lot of effort from many dedicated volunteers and trades people. The new cooler and kitchen will last many, many years. The new electrical and plumbing is up to code and volun- teers will no longer have to “MacGyver” the building. We are looking forward to publicizing the lounge to the community but will hold off until we can safely socialize again. As mentioned in past communications, BC/Yukon Command will not permit any meetings until the pandemic has subsided. The current Executive will stay in place until we have been given permission to once again hold meetings and then conduct elections. While many Legion Branches are closed at this time due to Covid-19, we are continuing to stay open for our members and the community. Our chef Catherine and bartender Joanne offer lunches and drinks to get you out of the house. Pam, our floor manager helps keep everyone safe and secure according to our safety plan. Many folks are not venturing out to eat or drink, so we are offering a take-out menu so you can order ahead and drop by for pick-up. We are pleased to announce that we will be offering Christmas dinner on December 24th for takeout. Christmas will be different for many this year. Many won’t be making a big Christmas dinner for the family so our takeout dinner may be the solution so you won’t have to buy a tur- key or roast beef for just a few. The Branch cannot host a New Year’s celebration this year. We will have to welcome 2021 at home. So we also won’t be having the New Year’s Levee on January 1st either. Let’s think about a big celebration to officially open the Lounge once we get the “all clear” from Provincial Health! That’s is something we can all look forward to. All of the Comox Branch 160 Executive wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year.
A Special Christmas Poem It'was The Night Before Christmas, Was This The Hero, I Fight For Freedom, He Lived All Alone, Of Whom I'd Just Read? I Don't Ask For More, In A One Bedroom House, Curled Up On A Poncho, My Life Is My God, Made Of Plaster And Stone. The Floor For A Bed? My Country, My Corps..." I Had Come Down The Chimney, I Realized The Families, The Soldier Rolled Over, With Presents To Give, That I Saw This Night, And Drifted To Sleep, And To See Just Who, Owed Their Lives To These I Couldn't Control It, In This Home, Did Live. Soldiers, I Continued To Weep. Who Were Willing To Fight. I Looked All About I Kept Watch For Hours, A Strange Sight I Did See, Soon Round The World, So Silent And Still, No Tinsel, No Presents, The Children Would Play, And We Both Shivered, Not Even A Tree And Grownups Would Celebrate, From The Cold Night's Chill. A Bright Christmas Day. No Stocking By Mantle, I Did Not Want To Leave, Just Boots Filled With Sand, They All Enjoyed Freedom, On That Cold, Dark, Night, On The Wall Hung Pictures, Each Month Of The Year, This Guardian Of Honour, Of Far Distant Lands. Because Of The Soldiers, So Willing To Fight. Like The One Lying Here. With Medals And Badges, Then The Soldier Rolled Over, Awards Of All Kinds, I Couldn't Help Wonder, With A Voice Soft And Pure, A Sober Thought, How Many Lay Alone, Whispered, "Carry On Santa, Came Through My Mind. On A Cold Christmas Eve, It's Christmas Day, All Is Secure." In A Land Far From Home. For This House Was Different, One Look At My Watch, It Was Dark And Dreary, The Very Thought Brought, And I Knew He Was Right. I Found The Home Of A Soldier, A Tear To My Eye, "Merry Christmas My Friend, Once I Could See Clearly. I Dropped To My Knees, And To All A Good Night." And Started To Cry. The Soldier Lay Sleeping, Silent, Alone, The Soldier Awakened, This Poem Was Written By A Curled Up On The Floor, And I Heard A Rough Voice, Peacekeeping Soldier Stationed In This One Bedroom Home. "Santa Don't Cry, Overseas. This Life Is My Choice; The Face Was So Gentle, The Room In Disorder, Not How I Pictured, A True Canadian Soldier.
