Making Headlines
Black Diamond is home to a rich arts community, including world class artists. Julia Reimer & Tyler Rock of Firebrand
Glass Studio are local award winning artists, who’s work is collected internationally, including in the notable private
collections of the Prime Minister of Canada, as well as the Emperor of Japan.
One of the highlights of their career was making the sculpture for Canada’s 150th at the Legislature Building in
Edmonton. It’s a stunning piece made with stainless steel and handmade glass inserts. The glass has textures of native
flowers, teepee rings, animal tracks, and trade routes. Others contain imagery of the province being built.
They were also commissioned by the Royal Tyrell Museum to make a sculpture on their ceiling that would help a visual
pathway through the exhibits. They worked with scientists to focus on the Paleozoic Era to depict creatures from that
time frame. There were about 75 individual sculptures representing different species suspended from the ceiling.

                                 Out in the Wild
For all of those in Town who enjoy heading out to Kananaskis Country, the province has
 imposed some changes.
Effective June 1, 2021, a Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for all vehicles stopping in
Kananaskis Country and provincial sites in the Bow Valley Corridor.
Passes can be purchased online and register license plates.
For personal vehicles pass prices are: $15 per day (registers one vehicle only)
yearly pass is $90 (registers up to two vehicles).
Each Kananaskis Conservation Pass helps pay for:
Conservation - protecting habitat and reducing wildlife conflicts
Public safety - enforcement, search and rescue
Services and facilities - trails, day-use areas, recreation facilities, visitor and information
    centres.

                                                   Housing Boom
Black Diamond has seen a very busy year for housing over
the last 12 months. The much anticipated addition of 16
units at Main Street Village will be available by October 1,
2021. These units were funded in part by the CMHC
Affordable Housing program and will help fill a much
needed gap in housing. For rental inquiries, call 403-616-
  1032.
2020 saw a large jump in new home builds with 18 single
detached homes bulit, up from 5 in 2019. This year has
kept up the momentum with 9 house starts since January
1st. Both Woodmaster Homes and Ryan Brothers Homes
have been busy keeping up with the demand for new
  houses in our community.

    EVENT CANCELLATIONS

The 2021 Parade and Canada Day events will be cancelled for 2021
due to ongoing Chief Medical Officer of Health restrictions for
Alberta's Public Health Response to COVID-19.

Council has decided that until events can be held safely based on the
provincial government guidance on outdoor events and festivals,
large scale Town hosted events will be cancelled for the summer,
which affects the Diamond Valley Parade on June 5, and the Canada
Day/Diamond Music Festival on July 1.
Thank you for your continued understanding and patience while we
make our way through this unprecedented time.

                                           Amalgamation Update
                                                                   Coolest Storefronts
Thank you to everyone who participated in the March 30 and April 1 Amalgamation Kickoff Events or took a few moments to
watch the video of the Mayors’ presentations on our website. We will be posting a What We Heard Report and updating the
Frequently Asked Questions on our website in the coming days. The excellent level of participation in the online events, the
follow-up survey, and the questions submitted by email have kept the subcommittees busy researching the answers to your
questions about amalgamation.

In the next few weeks, two (2) more events will be available for your participation. There will be one about electoral wards and
one about naming the new municipality. More details will follow on our website and social media outlets, closer to the launching of
those events.

Visit the Proposed Amalgamation page on our Town website to learn how to participate in
the next events, find available information and watch for the upcoming reports. If you still
have questions about amalgamation, you may submit them via email to
amalgamation@blackdiamond.ab.ca or amalgamation@turnervalley.ca.

Thank you for your continuing participation and interest in the amalgamation process.
