Making Headlines Black Diamond is home to a rich arts community, including world class artists. Julia Reimer & Tyler Rock of Firebrand Glass Studio are local award winning artists, who’s work is collected internationally, including in the notable private collections of the Prime Minister of Canada, as well as the Emperor of Japan. One of the highlights of their career was making the sculpture for Canada’s 150th at the Legislature Building in Edmonton. It’s a stunning piece made with stainless steel and handmade glass inserts. The glass has textures of native flowers, teepee rings, animal tracks, and trade routes. Others contain imagery of the province being built. They were also commissioned by the Royal Tyrell Museum to make a sculpture on their ceiling that would help a visual pathway through the exhibits. They worked with scientists to focus on the Paleozoic Era to depict creatures from that time frame. There were about 75 individual sculptures representing different species suspended from the ceiling. See the new story featured on CBC, or watch for one of their upcoming events or classes on firebrand.ca Sheep River Shuttle Service The Sheep River Shuttle is a cashless system: you pay for your trip when boarding the bus by debit or credit card. Amalgamation Update Coolest Storefronts Thank you to everyone who participated in the March 30 and April 1 Amalgamation Kickoff Events or took a few moments to watch the video of the Mayors’ presentations on our website. We will be posting a What We Heard Report and updating the Frequently Asked Questions on our website in the coming days. The excellent level of participation in the online events, the follow-up survey, and the questions submitted by email have kept the subcommittees busy researching the answers to your questions about amalgamation. In the next few weeks, two (2) more events will be available for your participation. There will be one about electoral wards and one about naming the new municipality. More details will follow on our website and social media outlets, closer to the launching of those events.
