GLENWOOD WEEKLY NEWS APRIL 15, 2020 Glenwood WEEKLY NEWS FIRE COMPANIES, STATE POLICE HONOR RIDDLE HOSPITAL WORKER HEROES AT 7PM SHIFT CHANGE You may have heard of heavy traffic last night on Route 1 by the Granite Run Mall. This heartwarming scene involved 9 fire companies and the PA State Police, as first responders lined up outside Riddle Hospital to clap for hospital employees during their shift change. This was a welcome traffic jam to show respect for those who are working the front lines on a daily basis, trying to keep us all safe. FROM THE PRINCIPAL As you know, Governor Wolf has declared all public school buildings remain closed for the remainder of the school year; therefore we are faced with making some challenging decisions. We are currently developing a plan to try to balance the idea of honoring our 5th graders and the reality of our current situation. Our number one goal is to keep everyone safe. I’m sure you have many questions and I would like to thank you for your patience and flexibility over the past few weeks. Some students, parents, and teachers have asked when they will be able to enter the building to retrieve their personal belongings. We will allow students/teachers to retrieve their personal belongings when the Governor will allow us to do so. We are also working on procedures to reimburse funds related to field trips, book fair, pictures, etc. Thank you for your continued support and remember, we are all in this together. Please let us know if we can assist you and your students in any way. We appreciate everyone’s patience, input and feedback. Please take care, and stay safe! Feel free to contact me at 610-627-6901 or ebucci@rtmsd.org if you have any questions or concerns. - Eric F. Bucci VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP - MARS Join us on a Virtual Field Trip to the MARS!!! (Taken from DELCO Daily Times) Riddlewood residents stay distanced but come together through kindness and generosity MIDDLETOWN » Riddlewood community has instituted many ways to bring good feelings to the isolation of quarantine and kindness abounds in her neighborhood. One resident has a collection on her porch for Media Food Bank and makes regular deliveries. Neighbors are sewing masks, leaving cheerful messages in driveways with sidewalk chalk art and creating events for all ages which have included backyard bird hunts, making cards for nursing home residents, driveway shows of music and paintings, exercise stations like hopscotch set up along sidewalks, bear hunts where neighbors put bears in their windows for children to find, scavenger hunts and a poem in my pocket program where children walk around and read their poems from a safe distance to those sitting in their driveways. There is also a program called "Riddlewood Helping Hand" through Google where neighbors can add their name, phone and email and ways that they need assistance, whether it is helping with picking up groceries or prescriptions or other ways. Seniors are given three colored pieces of paper to display in their windows: Green means they are okay, Yellow means they need help with an errand and red means there are having an emergency. Block captains check for the signs several times a day. The neighbors of Riddlewood also come out on their lawns every night at 7:30 p.m. to clap, cheer and bang posts and pans for healthcare workers. The Community coming together to spread KINDNESS!
