SI’s Dartmouth Classics for TUESDAY 6th July 1. RULES 1.1. The event will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024, and the prescriptions of the RYA, including Addendum A. 1.2. JCH classic handicap system will be used for all classes. All boats must comply with the 2021 JCH rules and have their certificates re-validated. Anchors may not protrude beyond the bow. 1.3. If there is conflict between the NOR and these SIs, these SIs take precedence. 1.4. RRS 44.1 is changed to a one-turn penalty. 2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS 2.1. Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board at Royal Dart Yacht Club 2.2. Any Supplementary sailing instructions will be posted on the official notice board. 2.3. VHF Channel 72 ( Alternative Ch M2, if needed) shall be monitored whilst afloat. Failure to to receive any information broadcast will not be grounds for redress. 3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 3.1. Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 0800 on the day it will take effect, unless this time is changed in the supplement. Any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 2000 on the day before it will take effect. 4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 4.1. Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flag pole at the Royal Dart Yacht Club. 4.2. Flag Y when displayed ashore or on any Committee boat means that Rule 40 applies at all times when afloat. 5. SCHEDULE OF RACES 5.1. Racing will take place on 6th July 2021 in Start Bay off the English Channel Coast. 5.2. The first warning signal is scheduled for 1100. 5.3. There will be a briefing at 1800 on the 5th in the RDYC. Only one member of the crew may attend but the substance of the briefing will be broadcast on VHF Ch 72 at 0900 and 1050 after the time check, BST from GPS on the day of the race.. 5.4. To alert boats that a race or sequence of races will begin soon, the orange starting line flag on the Committee boat will be displayed with one sound at least five minutes before the first warning signal is made. 5.5. If two races are sailed these will be planned as back to back. 6. CLASS FLAGS 6.1 Each class flag will be the numeral pennant of that group. 6.2. Depending on CCR Classification and JCH handicap, boats will be divided into Groups as follows. Depending on numbers Groups may be amalgamated. Group Numeral Flag A 9 B 8 C 7 D 6
SI’s Dartmouth Classics for TUESDAY 6th July 6.3. All yachts shall display their group flag on the backstay at least 1.5m above deck. If no backstay is carried the flag shall be displayed clearly on the after part of the boat. 7. THE COURSES 7.1. No later than the warning signal, the race committee will designate the course and number of laps. It may also display the approximate compass bearing and distance of the first leg. The order of group starts will be broadcast on VHF Ch 72 prior to the first warning signal. 7.2. The course diagram are in the Appendix following SI 14.4. They show the course, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left. 8. MARKS 8.1. A list of the marks that will be used, including a description of each one, will be stated at the briefing, and also transmitted over VHF Channel 72. 9. THE START 9.1. Races will be started by using RRS26 9.2. The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the race committee vessel and the course side of the starting mark. 9.3. RRS 32.2 is amended to; the penalty for breaking the rule will be 20 minutes added to their elapsed time. Boats crossing the start line and not returning, prior to the last minute of their start will be scored DNS without appeal. 10. CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE 10.1. To change the next leg of the course, the race committee may move the mark (or move the finishing line) as soon as practicable. When a mark is moved it will be broadcast on VHF Ch 72. 11. THE FINISH 11.1. The finishing line will be between a staff displaying a blue flag on the race committee vessel and the course side of the finishing mark (or the finishing line) as soon as practicable. 12. TIME LIMITS 12.1. The following time limit, will apply. 12.2.The 1st boat in group to finish- 120 mins, thereafter a further 45mins window for rest of the group. 12.3. Boats failing to finish within the Finishing Window shall be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing. This changes RRS 35, A5.1 and A5.2. 13. SHORTENING COURSE. 13.1. In addition to RRS 32.2, if Flag Sierra is flown by the Committee boat, with sound signals and also broadcast on VHF, before the leading boat of the group passes buoy 3, it should continue round buoy 3, and then pass through the finish line. Flag S by the Committee boat may be flown with a group flag or alone for all groups.
SI’s Dartmouth Classics for TUESDAY 6th July 14. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS 14.1. Hearing request forms are available at the race office. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit. Boats wishing to protest should also try to alert the Committee boat on finishing. 14.2. For each class, the protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the day or the race committee signals no more racing today, whichever is later. 14.3. Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses and where the hearings will be held. 14.4. Notices of protests by the race committee, technical committee or protest committee will be posted to inform boats under RRS 61.1(b).
