‘Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu’ means to speak up and
speak out in reference to bullying. ‘Speak Up’ refers
to having conversations with your friends, whānau,
children, kaiako/teachers, tauira/students and wider
communities to come up with ideas and strategies to
address bullying. ‘Speak Up’ is also about asking for
help when you need it. This can be scary, and
sometimes the first person you ask can’t or won’t
do anything to help you. Keep asking. Pink Shirt Day
shows there are many people who care about
supporting you.

Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Stand Together

‘Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora’ means to stand together in life
and wellness. ‘Stand Together’ refers to how
bullying behaviour is influenced by the actions and
values of friends, whānau, schools, kura, workplaces
and whole communities. Real change happens when

TRAINING Fiji is an island in the Pacific and is actually made up
of 333 islands! It’s home to over 880,000 Fijians and

or tasks we haven’t done before. So, it’s never been
more important to ensure you receive suitable and
adequate information, training, instruction and
supervision to do the tasks asked of you. This is
particularly important if you are using equipment or
dealing with chemicals, or working at a new site.

Before you carry out a task, ensure you have
adequate knowledge or experience of similar work
so you are not likely to cause harm to yourself or to
others, or you are being supervised by someone who
has the relevant knowledge and experience. Your
manager/supervisor should also provide you with a
Safe Operating Procedure (sometimes called a Safe
Work Procedure). This is a step by step information
guide on how to safely operate a piece of equipment
or carry out a task. Once you are considered c
competent to carry out the work without supervi-
sion, you will be required to sign the SOP to confirm
your understanding. These documents should then
be provided to HR to add to your training records.

Managers/Supervisors should be aware of what
training is required but don’t wait to be asked. Talk
to your manager about training BEFORE you do a
job you haven’t tackled in the past. Don’t wait for
accidents or incidents to happen.
