Now is the winter of our programme full So as I pen this note to you all, the full programme is 2 months in and playing to packed and appreciative houses. Having taken a big slice of my offspring to the Panto and enjoying each performance, one of my grandkids turned to me and asked, “Grandad why did they name you after a theatre” bless him, he just added to the laughter and fun of this splendid ritual event at the Court. If variety is the spice of life patrons of the Court could not wish for more. Plays, comics and serious bands, singers famous and local, all part of an ever-increasing programme of treats for a wider and wider audience. In my one to one personal surveys, which usually start with, “do you come here often?” the number of encounters with folk who have come from great distances is increasing. The broad band of “courtiers” the noble and enthusiastic backbone of the facility continue to give one a great sense of pride. This band of brothers and sisters are many not few. Volunteers and enthusiasts all doing their roles or minding the shop it seems to matter not. I once tried to convince a Prime Minster to drive off the A41 to come and see the “big society” in the small town of Tring, I think a referendum got in the way, so I failed in the endeavour. This next season at the Court is jam packed with delights to please all tastes, all artistic parties. Musicals to please everyone including a special favourite of mine but you will have to guess which that may be. Comedy by the ton, enough to give everyone something they can remember over a drink or at dinner. Some great plays challenging the casts and those directing and last but by no means least we host “Any Questions” on BBC Radio 4. We have been doing a steady stream of improvements, freshening up the look but most importantly making better space for all the hundreds of Courtiers so they will have better facilities to do their work. It is an ongoing and often expensive process which God willing I can continue to fund. The fund of goodwill is up to you the audience, your support of all the various performances is the food of more events at the Court. David Evans MBE Photos: Adam Hollier
