The 2019 Second Chance Sale A few fantastic event seats and items from the 2019 Auction went unsold on Auction Night ... so we're giving you a second chance to win them! The Second Chance Sale starts on Sunday, October 27 and ends at midnight on Saturday, November 9. Here's how it works: This catalog lists everything up for bid in the Second Chance Sale. For events, the listing includes the event number, description, donor(s), value, number of seats available, and sign-up price. For items, the listing includes the item number, description, donor(s), value, and starting bid. The event and item numbers are the same as were used in the Auction. To bid on an event or item, email your bid to auction@asuuc.net. Use Second Chance Sale Bid as the Subject of your email. For each event, your email must include event number and the number of seats you want to buy. For each item, your email must include item number and bid amount. For each item, the highest bid received by midnight, November 9 wins the item. If there is a tie, the first person to submit the highest bid will win the item. For each event, the available seats will be won by the bids that were submitted first. We will acknowledge each bid by reply email and indicate if the bid is the current high bid or, if it is not, what the current high bid is. Winners will be notified by email on Sunday morning, November 10. The deadline for payment for Second Chance Sale winnings is December 1, 2019. All items must be picked up by the winner, either in person or by arranged local delivery. No items will be mailed. Event #: 28 Absinthe Tasting Available Seats: 1 Donor: Mark Arnest Date: 6/19/2020, 5:30 pm Value (per seat): $45 Signup Price (per seat): $40 This is a sublime opportunity to try something that was once illegal but is now perfectly legal. Absinthe gets its name from wormwood (artesian absinthium), a powerful agent against intestinal parasites. Created as medicine in the late 18th century, it became the Belle Epoque aperitif par excellence. Banned in many countries in the early 20th century, it has enjoyed a renaissance since being legalized in the EU in the 90s and in the US in 2007. On Friday, June 19, 2020, starting at 5:30 pm, you will sample a selection of French, Swiss and American absinthes, accompanied by enough hors d'oeuvres to keep you more or less upright. Your host, Mark Arnest, will teach you the absinthe ritual and some absinthe history and lore and give you guidance for further study. Mark has been an absintheur since 2005 and wrote a comprehensive Gazette article about absinthe after its legalization. Caveat No. 1: If you do not like, or at least tolerate, the taste of licorice, you probably will not enjoy absinthe. Caveat No. 2: Despite its reputation, absinthe does not have any extraordinary psychoactive effects. It is, however, extremely alcoholic (but not enough to keep you from enjoying Saturday). 2019 Second Chance Sale Catalog 2
