EDDIE CLOSES ON AUS RECORD Kookaburras Captain and Tasmanian sporting megastar Eddie Ockenden is tipped to break the Australian Men’s hockey games record on Saturday, 7 March 2020, when his side plays Argen- tina in the FIH Pro League at the Perth Hockey Stadium in WA. The current record stands at 365 caps, held by Jamie Dwyer who retired in 2016, with Ockenden due to bring up game number 366 providing he doesn’t miss any matches during the first months of the FIH Pro League. You can watch the Pro League live if you have a subscription to Kayo or Fox Sports, or if you are in or traveling to Perth you can purchase a ticket via Ticketek. FERGUSON GLOVES TOP AWARD U18 Indoor Goalkeeper Wins Indoor Squad. The 25-player squad will be invited to attend an intensive 3-day Player of the Tournament Award camp in October. and Australian Selection Georgia Ferguson, Goalkeeper for the Tasmanian Under 18 Indoor Women, won the Player of the Tournament award at the recently completed National Indoor Championships held in Wollongong, NSW during January. Despite a seventh-placed finish for her side Ferguson impressed everyone with her skills in the net and claimed the top individual prize over the rest of the competition. Ferguson was also rewarded for her excellent tournament with selection in the Australian Women Under 18 National www.hockeytasmania.com.au 5
ALISSIA EYES WORLD CUP Star ‘Keeper Wows Aus Selec- tors During 2020 Indoor National Championships Leading Tasmanian Indoor goalkeeper Alissia Pearson earned selection in the Australian Women 2020 Indoor National Squad after a stand-out Indoor Champi- onships in Wollongong during January. No stranger to Australian squads, Pearson will now try to make the cut for the forth- coming Indoor World Cup team - to be selected from the National Squad after an intensive 3-day training camp in August. The date for the FIH Indoor World Cup has yet to be set, though, with some expect- ing the tournament to be announced for February 2021. INDOOR TEAMS EARN PLAUDITS Tasmania’s Indoor Under 18 Women, Under 15 Boys, and Under 15 Girls were all awarded the “Play the Whistle” award at the recently completed Indoor National Championships. The award is given to the team that displays the best discipline and respect for umpires over the course of the entire tournament. 6 Tasmanian Hockey Magazine, February 2020
U18 TRIO MAKE AUS INDOOR Lucy Cooper, Georgia Ferguson, and Joshua Commins were all selected for Australian Indoor Under 18 squads after they had exceptional individual National Indoor Championships in January. They will all be invited to attend a 3-day camp in October where they can put their case to the National coaches for inclusion in future squads.
