Latest News Atalaya Early December 2019 SWEDEN vs FINLAND - FINNKAMPEN On Mondays many members and guests play bridge at Atalaya. This Monday the 25th of November, the Swedes and the Fins did not. SWEDEN won 325 - 319 (the ten best stableford results added together). Nearest the pin on hole 16 was Eija Rintala. Best stableford score was Pia Christiansen with 38 pts. Congratulations to all of us!
La Costa Scratch Liga Final at Atalaya It was a cold rainy day… We woke up at 6.00am in the morning and the weather was not promising. We had to go with the flow and cancelled the golf competition at 7.30am as the rain fell from a black sky. Despite the weather, everybody turned up for lunch and nearly 50 ladies were there to enjoy a pre-lunch cava reception. Everyone had dressed for the occasion and it was lovely to see everyone out of their usual golf clothes. Marina Stone had arrived beforehand and set up a wonderful display of hand-made jewellery, including an early seasonal touch with a sparkling white Christmas tree decorated with her lovely natural stones bracelets. Before sitting down for lunch and accompanied by Queen´s “We are the Champions”, Nina Phillimore presented team Guadalmina with the winner´s trophy for the 2019 season. Our Atalaya team had great success this year and finished in 4th place out of seven teams. Then we continued to our lunch with healthy salads and main dishes of either Salmon Teriyaki or Medallions of chicken, which had been prepared and served with love by the kitchen and restaurant staff. The La Costa Scratch Liga is a wonderful organisation of seven clubs and this year it was Atalaya´s turn to manage the running of the Liga, including chairing the AGM. We play the best courses on the Costa del Sol with ladies from many different countries in a friendly but competitive atmosphere. In her presentation after lunch, Atalaya team Capitana Nina Phillimore emphasised the feeling of unity from a big family that the Liga represented and looked forward to this spirit continuing in the forthcoming season. She also thanked all the Atalaya team for their support and help during her captaincy, especially Maureen Carey, who had acted as a “vice captain” and had done a lot of work in preparing for today´s final. As there had been no golf on the day, it was decided to hand out all the prizes through a lucky draw. The prize table was laden with an amazing array of gifts and everybody managed to go home with a prize! We are so grateful to our sponsors: Helicopteros Sanitarios, magazine Ladies in Golf, Mirko, Golfriend´s, Fairway & Blue, Salon Venus beauty, Jose Cubero (osteopath), Pepe Moreno Beauty Salon, Nina Dance, Everest Fusion, Marina Stone jewellery. The new season will be under the management of Alison Evans, the Scratch Liga Capitana at El Paraiso and everyone wished her good luck and good fortune for 2020. And all the best for next year to Team Atalaya! For more pictures please CLICK HERE

Atalaya’s Bandidos victorious against Los Arqueros Since joining the Bandidos seven years ago, Los Arqueros has dominated Costa del Sol’s Los Bandidos Interclub matches. The records show that Los Arqueros has only lost three matches, including both home and away, in all this time. Earlier this month Atalaya’s Bandidos Captain Joseph Durrmeyer chose to play Atalaya’s home match against Los Arqueros on the New Course. Durrmeyer’s de- cision nearly created an insurrection amongst Atalaya’s Bandidos team. Members moaned and complained. Some even considered not playing over the choice to face Los Arqueros on the New Course. Durrmeyer’s position remained firm: “We have never beaten them on the Old Course, and we played them on the New Course last year and won.” Durrmeyer’s decision to hold the competition on the New Course proved to be the right one. Atalaya collected another victory against the strong Los Arqueros Bandi- dos for the second year in a row. This time the win was 3½ to 1½. Even after winning the match, most of the team still complained saying: “Please don’t do this again.” Durrmeyer quickly responded to the whingers: “So you would rather play the Old Course and lose?” This remark silenced all but the most vocal critics. Durrmeyer didn’t stop there. He continued: “As a club we need to feature the New Course more. It is a wonderful opportunity – not a curse. The New Course is a shot makers course, and being able to work the ball is an asset that would serve our members well. The idea that the New Course is a course that punishes good shots is plain nonsense. Just because a shot is long does not make it good. A long shot the wrong direction that ends in a hazard is just not a good shot.” By Tia Durrmeyer
CHRISTMAS LUNCH AT LA SALA A very mixed group of some of the oldest and newest members of Atalaya gathered again at the Ski Lodge of La Sala to celebrate a Christmas Party. After a Cava reception we moved on to our private dining room. Delicious food, in- cluding the traditional turkey with all trimmings was served. Lots of laughs and jokes were exchanged and everybody was in a happy Christ- mas mood. Even some fun games were performed by Rita and Lynne. La Sala did again a splendid job – everybody was happy and the Christmas Spirit has definitely been ignited. By Franz Arnold For more pictures please CLICK HERE
It's good to be back ... Hi everyone, again I am here in Marbella practice and playing on your fantastic courses. This time it is a little mini stay but already have I met many of the nice members and always service minded staff. Look here at the difference between being a golfer in Norway versus Atalaya. I feel at home so thank you all for that. If I can help or anyone wants to have a chat, then just grab me on the course or in the practice field. I spend most of my time there. The 2019 season, which was my first professional season, was a little heavier than expected. When I returned to Norway in March, without knowing it, I had contracted a virus which eventually had quite a big impact on me. But I didn't realize it until June. So since July I haven't been able to play tournaments. But my first year as a professional has given me 2 top 10 placements and some cutts. 2 missed cutter. It have been a struggling way back but with helps from many people I will soon be better than ever. To be here at Atalay is a very important part of my recovery. Results may not be the most important thing this first year, but the experience I have brought with me is of great value and it has made me even more eager to succeed. While I stopped playing tournaments this summer, I changed coach at home in Norway. It was really good timing when I got a lot of time focusing on details that make my swing and play better. Now on friday I travel home to celebrate Christmas and then go to La Malanga on January 10th to play the Ladies Europan Tour qualifier with a goal of improving the category from last year. Hope to be back here in late February. So I thank you all for your support and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Best of love Tina Mazarino https://tinamazarino.com
