4-H GUIDELINES CLAY COUNTY, SD January 2021 A NOTE FROM LAUREN Lauren is on a well‐deserved break from the office. She told me I had to write something so here goes ‐ My final newsletter! It has been a real pleasure getting to know all of ‘my’ 4-H members and families. You are a great group of people. The Leaders Association has an excellent group of volunteer leaders and I don’t think I could find a nicer group of people to work with. I will definitely miss you all! Retirement is going to be a whole new experience! I’ll enjoy taking the winter months off and then will look for a part-time position in town or elsewhere? We’ll see where this new journey takes me. I hope 2021 is good to all of you. Farewell and take care! Colleen ●●●●●●●●● 4HONLINE 2.0 Don’t forget to re‐enroll in 4‐H! Help sheets can be found on our website. The link for 4HOnline 2.0 is h ps://v2.4honline.com. All leaders and shoo ng sports coaches need to re‐enroll. If you don’t, the State 4‐H Office considers that a lapse and you will need to go through the en re process again with a fee of $75.00. SOUTH DAKOTA 4-H VOLUNTEER ORIENATION COURSE REQUIREMENT - NEW Star ng November 1, any new volunteers will need to complete the SD 4‐H Volunteer Orienta on Course. The course is through Training House (traininghouse.sdstate.edu), self‐guided, broken into six required sec ons and one op onal sec on. Each sec on has a video that is 8‐12 minutes long with a short review quiz and evalua on at the end. All three elements must be completed in order to complete the course. Volunteers will need to self‐ enroll. Enrollment instruc ons are a ached. Volunteers should complete this course a er their interview with a local 4‐H professional and complete in the me wai ng for their background check to be complete. The course can be done all at once or can be broken up as needed. Volunteers will be able to start and go back‐in to access the course. The background check and course must be completed before the State 4‐H office will approve the volunteer in 4H Online and be cleared to begin volunteering. All current volunteers with South Dakota 4‐H are also encouraged to complete the course to further develop their volunteer skills! Informa on is relevant to not just new volunteers but will be helpful for everyone working with our 4‐H youth. While it is not re‐ quired to complete the course as a current volunteer, I would ask that anyone accessing the course would complete the evalua on components, so we know how many par cipated. For issues accessing the course or ques ons, please contact Jenae, SDSU Extension 4‐H Volunteer Development Field Specialist. Jenae.hansen@sdstate.edu
