The SW-51 Mustang – the innovative legend ! Never before has an historical aircraft been successfully recreated as a light, ultralight and experimental aircraft in such detail. The ScaleWings SW-51 Mustang is an absolute true-to-original replica of the legendary North American P-51 Mustang built to a scale of 70%. The precise contours of the aircraft and the exact reproduction of the surface structures make the SW-51 Mustang so compelling. Thousands of details of the original P-51, such as rivets, screws, metal sheet joints and surface details of the original can be found on the SW-51 Mustang. In order to be able to replicate the same true-to-the-original surface over and over again, ScaleWings has developed a new manufacturing technology. The SW- 51 Mustang is manufactured in an intricate but extremely strong carbon fibre honeycomb sandwich construction. This guarantees minimal weight together with maximum strength. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 5 von 25

Flight tests The SW-51 completed the first part of the flight test in September 2014 with very good results. Test pilot Thomas Kreimeier attested to the excellent flight characteristics of the sw51 Mustang. Captain Thomas Kreimeier – (Test Pilot): “I had a very good feeling with the Mustang right from the start. The aircraft is comfortable to fly, stable but shows at the same and exceptional responsiveness, similar to the Comet S2. Both the take- off and landing do not require any specific demands to on the pilot.” © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 13 von 25

FLINOS - Flight Information and Operating System The FLINOS is the central module for the control of the retractable landing gear, the landing gear doors and the flaps of the SW-51 Mustang. The FLINOS display also informs about the position of the trim rudder for ailerons, elevators and rudders. The main control functions are performed by individual high safety modules. FLINOS – standard control panel Left: Flaps Tipping the selector switch up or down selects the next flaps position. The actual position of the flaps is indicated through the four LEDs. Center: LED trim tab position indicators for the three-axis trim. Right: Landing gear control Tipping the selector switch up or down actuates the landing gear drive. A control logic operates landing gear and landing gear door drives and their sequential order. For additional comfort, the FLINOS can be upgraded with an optional Linux controller board and software modules which can be purchased separately installed. FLINOS Linux control panel As an extension of the FLINOS basic version the Linux computer offers the pilot a whole range of modules to choose from: - monitoring of landing gear, landing gear doors, flaps - monitoring of wing connections - fuel and energy monitoring (incl. sensors and wiring) - engine monitoring (incl. EGT & CHT sensors and wiring) The FLINOS Linux control panel offers a color display. Depending on the installed software modules, the pilot can select from a variety of information, such as trim tab positions, engine data, etc. The FLINOS Linux control panel allows to install a second FLINOS control panel in the rear pilot's seat which replicates all functions and information from the main FLINOS Linux control panel. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 15 von 25
FLINOS – control unit The FLINOS control unit is the core of FLINOS. It operates the FLINOS control panels. Located in the center console, it is the terminal for all prefabricated and tested wiring harnesses which are connected to the control unit by screwed connectors. The multiple cable connections are made by electronic boards of highest quality which eliminates manual wiring in the fuselage. The FLINOS control unit also houses all circuit breakers. The Linux computer multiplies the options as the computer unit handles all communication protocols (Ethernet, CanBUS, CANAerospace, Video, Audio, etc.) and opens all doors for future developments. The FLINOS is a joint development of ScaleWings and a well-known company in the field of safety electronics. It goes without saying that all components are subject to strict safety tests. "FLINOS" is a registered trademark of the ScaleWings group of companies. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 16 von 25
Retractable landing gear Main landing gear Landing gear leg The SW-51 Mustang is equipped as a standard with a sturdy retractable landing gear. The landing gear legs are made of high-strength steel and equipped with gas-spring shock absorbers with a travel of 200 mm (8 in.) which take over both, suspension and damping. This results in a progressive suspension at the end position range and at the same time provides damping already from the first millimeter of deflection. Wheel The SW-51 Mustang wheel consists of a two rim halves made of high-strength aluminum which replicates the original. In combination with the aviation tire (19.5 x 8 ") it looks deceptively similar to the original tire of the P-51. Brakes The SW-51 is equipped with Beringer® high-quality disc brakes. By default the SW-51 is equipped with toe brakes for the pilot seat only. Toe brakes for the rear seat are available. Optionally a differential hand brake can be selected for both seats. Function: At a defined deflection of the rudder the brake in the outside of the turn is released. In conjunction with the unlockable tail wheel the plane can be rotated on the spot. Landing gear drive The new landing gear drive enables the locking of the landing gear both retracted and extended without locking lever or locking pin. This guarantees an accurate long-lasting locking without any jamming. In case of a mechanical or electrical failure the integrated emergency extension system triggered from the pilot seat ensures the unlocking, extension and locking of the landing gear. Main gear doors A slightly modified drive is used for the operation of the inner main landing gear doors keeping the advantages of the main landing gear drive. Tail gear The tail gear is a lightweight steel construction using the slightly modified electric drive from the main landing gear. The tailwheel is connected to the rudder and can be decoupled to turn the SW-51 Mustang on the spot. It can be rotated around 360° which eases hangaring. The tailwheel landing gear doors are driven from the tail wheel drive. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 17 von 25
Flaps The four-part flaps are driven through threaded spindles by one electric motor via a single tooth belt. As a result, the exact same landing flap movement is reliably guaranteed on both sides of the wing. Trim Electric trim on all controls is a standard feature. The aileron and elevator trim tabs are operated each by a separate trim motor. In case of a malfunction of one trim motor the runaway can be compensated by the second. Aileron and elevator trim is controlled by a four way hat switch on the stick grip. Rudder trim by a rocker switch at the front side of the throttle grip. Easy removable outer wings The outer wings (disconnecting line outside the landing gear) can be easily removed. One person only needs five minutes to attach or detach the outer wings with all connections (wing locks, aileron and flap connection, electrical connections, pitot tube hose, fuel lines from outer to center wing) connecting or disconnecting using a single lever. The optional FLINOS Linux pack monitors all connections electronically (wing locks, aileron and flap connection, electrical connections, pitot tube hose, fuel lines from outer to center wing). Outer wings removed, the SW-51 Mustang only needs 280 x 690 cm (9 x 23 ft.) hangar space. GALAXY parachute rescue system All SW-51 Mustang versions are prepared for the installation of ballistic rescue system. ScaleWings relies on GALAXY® which has years of experience. GALAXY has customized the parachute pack to fit into the SW-51 fuselage. In case of emergency, the parachute can be triggered from both seats. Within only a few seconds, the aircraft and its crew glide safely back to earth on a parachute. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 18 von 25
Carbon – Kevlar – safety fuselage shell The safety of our customers is of paramount importance for ScaleWings. Therefore the cockpit section of SW-51 Mustang fuselageis equipped with an inner safety shell made of carbon/Kevlar-fibre. This safety shell enhances in the same time the strength of the fuselage.. The above picture shows the laminated carbon-Kevlar shell before vacuum compression. The safety shell enhances the historic metal look in the cockpit. Seats and pedal adjustment The carbon-Kevlar seats combine high stability with low weight and splinter protection for pilot and passenger. The seats can be moved 120 mm forward up and backwards down and ensure a comfortable seating position for any pilot. The rudder pedals are also adjustable (+/- 80 mm). This adjustment combination allows for an ergonomic seating for pilots between 160 and 200 cm (5 ft 3 in. and 6 ft 7 in.). The optional electric seat adjustment allows an easy seat adjustment at any time even during flight. The seats can be raised by the optional seat lift which raises the seat by 200 mm and offers even more entry and exit comfort. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 19 von 25
Dual stick control Dual control comes as a standard and allows the SW-51 to be piloted from the both seats. (Attention: only with a pilot in the front seat!). As a standard the rear cockpit is equipped with a minimal instrumentation. Optionally, the rear cockpit can get a full instrumentation and the FLINOS. Fuel tanks Aerobatic main fuel tanks The two 50 liter (13 USGal) Kevlar safety tanks located in the center wing, are easy to remove for maintenance. By default, these tanks are designed for aerobatics and reliably provide the engine with fuel in all flight attitudes. Auxiliary tanks The outer wings can be equipped with auxiliary tanks. These are membrane tanks installed in front and the rear side of the main spar. Fuel transfer from the outer wing tanks to the main center wing tanks is done through electric pumps. Fuel gauges Four fuel gauges indicate the fuel level. The fuel transfer switch is placed next to the gauges. Pushing the button initiates and stops the fuel transfer. The fuel transfer is automatically stopped when the main tanks are full or if the outer wing tanks are empty. ScaleWings AcroOil aerobatic oil supply system ScaleWings has developed a novel aerobatic oil supply system (AcroOil) which reliably supplies the engine with oil in all flight attitudes. This patented aerobatic oil supply system integrates not only the maintenance free and reliable oil routing but guarantees that not oil escapes into the environment during aerobatics. Silencer and exhaust system The engine packages also include the silencer and the sixfold exhaust pipes made of stainless steel on each side of the aircraft. Cabin ventilation and heating The fresh air is taken at the front air inlet behind the propeller. Two vents in the instrument panels and one in the center console assure good aeration of the cockpit. Additional vents in the windshield frame prevent the windshield from fogging. Cabin heating is provided through heat exchangers around the silencer but for safety reasons, the hot air duct is not directly connected to the silencer wall. Hot and cold air can be controlled separately through to buttons in the center console. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 20 von 25
Standard and additional equipment Please consult the attached Equipment & Option List. Canopy For taxiing the canopy can be slided 45 cm backwards. In the rear position the canopy can be swiveled to the right side for a comfortable entry and exit. By pressing the emergency release, the canopy is jettisoned rearwards. Paint and aluminium look The ready-to-fly ultralight version of the SW-51 will be painted to customer requirements WITHOUT extra charge. Giving your Mustang a unique appearance. An optional look of polished aluminium is available. It is permanently protected and needs no polishing. We can also give your Mustang a weathering effect (artificial aging) in the intensity you wish. Historic maintenance and service labels are available as an option. We offer to realize this special surface treatment for your Experimental Mustang in our plant in Krosno. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 21 von 25
Luggage compartments The SW-51 Mustang has wo luggage compartments. One in the front (between firewall and cockpit) and one in the rear (behind the rear seat). To load bulky items (e.g. golf bag, skis) the rear seat can be folded forward or removed completely. Both luggage compartments are equipped with lashing eyes to secure items. Both control sticks are removable. Removing the rear seat and the rear stick enlarges the space to a “sleeping place on tour.” Worldwide container transport The SW-51 Mustang was developed for the international market. Therefore, ScaleWings offers a transport frame for safe accommodation in containers or on trucks or trailers. This allows the SW-51 Mustang to be delivered to virtually anywhere in the world at low cost, almost ready to fly. Once arrived at the destination, the SW-51 is swiveled from the 45° position on the transport frame to the horizontal position. The landing gear extracted, the SW-51 can be rolled from the transport frame. Mounting the propeller and the outer wings attached you only need fuel to take-off. It is just as easy to ship the Mustang (e.g. for painting or completion and repair work) to our plant in Krosno. Maintenance Minimal maintenance was one of the development goals for the SW-51 Mustang. This has been achieved, except the engine maintenance. The SW-51 maintenance manual is essentially just an inspection manual. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 22 von 25

Professionals with many years of experience guarantees consistent high quality. For Scalewings precision work is self evident. The SW-51 Mustang is built entirely from high-quality carbon fiber, aviation- certified resins and sandwich materials. Experience, teamwork and craftsmanship distinguish the ScaleWings team in our production in Krosno. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 23 von 25
Load tests Using carbon fiber for both the shells and the entire structure in a special technology realizes a very favorable weight-to-strength ratio thus enabling a higher payload. In 2014, the SW-51 has successfully completed the load tests for ultralight aircraft – with impressive results – as shown in the following picture. By far above the requirements. Safety of its customers is paramount for ScaleWings. Therefore, not effort was spared to offer our customers the highest safety standard. The new software controlled hydraulic test rig at our location Krosno enables ScaleWings to perform comprehensive load tests, both for the 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) kit version and the 600 kg (1,323 lb) ultralight version. 40 load introduction points connect the aircraft to the test rig and will allow CS 23 conform static and dynamic load tests. ScaleWings AeroTrailer The ScaleWings AeroTrailer, equipped with its special loading mechanism makes the SW-51 Mustang road transportable and at the same time it is a mobile hangar for your plane. For details please consult the section AeroTrailer. © Copyright by ScaleWings Seite 24 von 25
ScaleWings MobileHangar – an innovative hangar solution In addition, Scalewings offers the MobilHangar, an easy to assemble and disassemble light hangar in four sizes. Looking like a tent it is equipped with burglary protection and can be erected in many countries without construction permission. The AeroTrailer and the MobileHangar provide two ways of hangaring when no hangar space available. A lot of further pictures you can find at our new website www.scalewings.com at the gallery.
