Sunshine & Gold Coast 9 Day Tour DAY 2: Monday 26 July Coffs Harbour to the Sunshine Coast Following breakfast, we continue north along the Pacific Highway, making our way to Duranbah, and Tropical Fruit World. This is an Agri-tourist destination growing the largest range of tropical and rare fruit in the world. The plantation is situated on the rim of the largest extinct volcano in the Southern Hemisphere and offers breathtaking views of the Tweed Valley and McPherson Ranges. Within sight are three world heritage National Parks containing some of the best rainforest scenery in Australia. The Plantation grows more than 500 kinds of tropical fruit & nuts, and today we explore the plantation with a tour guide on a Plantation Safari. The guided tour is a journey through orchards where some of the world’s weirdest and most wonderful fruit varieties are grown. We learn why this unique location, nestled on the edge of the volcanic caldera of Wollumbin is so special, as we enjoy lunch right here on this beautiful Tweed farm. The last leg of our journey today sees us expressing north, bypassing Brisbane and travelling onto the Sunshine Coast and our base for the next 3 nights in Caloundra. ACCOMMODATION Oasis Resort Caloundra MEALS Breakfast & dinner in Motel, lunch at Tropical Fruit World Image courtesy Tourism Australia DAY 3: Tuesday 27 July Caloundra & Australia Zoo Enjoy some free time this morning before we join Caloundra Cruises for a morning tea cruise and explore this local area. We’ll experience superb vistas across Bribie Island National Park, pristine sandy bays, abundant bird life and gain a wonderful insight into the area’s rich seafaring history. Back on dry land our lunch is at Pelican Waters Tavern. No holiday to this area would be complete without a visit to Australia Zoo – home, of course, to the late Steve Irwin, the “Crocodile Hunter”. Australia Zoo has a reputation for conservation work, due mainly to the popularity of the documentary series “The Crocodile Hunter”. Many millions of dollars have been invested in the park so that it is an ever changing and growing attraction. There are many scheduled demonstrations during the afternoon and the chance to be photographed with a giant python. A people mover is available to access the various parts of the park. At a pre-arranged time, we’ll drive back to the resort for some free time before dinner. ACCOMMODATION Oasis Resort Caloundra MEALS Breakfast & dinner in Motel, lunch at Pelican Waters Tavern
Sunshine & Gold Coast 9 Day Tour DAY 4: Wednesday 28 July The Eumundi Markets We’re lucky enough to be here on a Saturday so, after breakfast, we’ll head off to the famous Eumundi Markets. The twice weekly street markets held in the small village of Eumundi are as popular with the locals as they are with visitors to the Sunshine Coast. The town itself is very attractive – the main street is tree lined and features many fine examples of buildings that were constructed between 1890 and 1930. The market operates on Wednesday and Saturday mornings – “rail, hail or shine”! 300 stalls of various handcrafts and produce are controlled by a strict market policy – you can sell your goods if you “can make it, bake it, sew it or grow it”. As a result a very high quality of original product is on offer. We will spend the morning at the markets and have some free time to explore the village. Late morning, we make our way to Yandina to visit Australia’s only Ginger Factory where we view the audio visual display tracing the life of ginger from planting to final use, see ginger growing in the patch and then look at the factory from the observation deck to see production. We will have lunch here before we also take a ride on the Ginger train, and visit the Gingertown shops or stroll through the landscaped gardens. Just across the road is the Macadamia Factory just in case you’d like to stock up! We return to the resort – relax or perhaps make use of some of the resort’s facilities. ACCOMMODATION Oasis Resort Caloundra MEALS Breakfast & dinner in Motel, lunch at Ginger Factory Image courtesy Tourism Australia DAY 5: Thursday 29 July Sunshine Coast to Gold Coast Today we depart the Sunshine coast and head south to the Gold Coast and arrive late morning at Sea World, the first of many world class theme parks located on “the Coast.” There is so much to see and do. The program for the day will be provided on arrival so be sure to take note of the things you want to see –Shark Bay, Polar Bear Shores, Shark Attack, the Dolphin Nursery Pool and much more. Access to all parts of the Park is easy via the Sea World Monorail. Next stop is Skypoint, the world’s second tallest residential building. We’ll take one of the fastest elevators in the world to the 77th floor and take in the brilliant views from the observation deck. More than just awesome views, the observation deck also has a theatrette with a short presentation on the history of the Gold Coast. From here we travel to the southern part of the Gold Coast and check into the Mantra Twin Towns Resort. Sunshine & Gold Coast 9 Day Tour DAY 6: Friday 30 July “The Gold Coast” Our breakfast this morning is a little unusual as we head to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to enjoy Breakfast with the Birds. The sanctuary is home to over 1400 birds, mammals and reptiles. We then have some time to experience the program on offer, like feeding the wild lorikeets or perhaps boarding the miniature steam train for “Kangaroo Crossing” and coming face to face with kangaroos and wallabies. We have the rest of the day at leisure to further explore the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta area or maybe enjoy a little bit of retail therapy. Early evening, we leave the hotel and make our way to the Australian Outback Spectacular. There is no place on earth like the Australian Outback... and no show on earth like the new Australian Outback Spectacular show called Heartland. Enjoy the all new story with true Australian characters, Reg and Marge, who are battling a severe five-year drought on their farm. This heart touching story will resonate with many as it delves into real world struggles that many Aussie farmers are dealing with today. With the help from some unlikely characters, and friendships that will last a lifetime, the pair overcomes the harsh realities of life in the Australian Outback. Prepare to embark on a vivid, spectacular and emotional ride into the heart of the Australian bush under the iconic red roof with a delicious three course dinner. Australia’s favourite dinner and show is more than a night out – it’s an experience steeped in courage, tradition and daring Australian spirit. What a fabulous night!
