Summer at CPAC! Welcome to the 2018 Spring/Summer season at CPAC! Perform- ers making their debut at CPAC this summer include the Klez- mopolitans, jazz vocalist Earla Porch and husband and wife duo Marie Sierra and Hank Feldman. CPAC is pleased to bring back many favorites including Petie Ronstadt, Green Valley Summer Chorus and Santa Cruz Summer Winds. The Green Valley Sum- mer Big Band and Arizona Banjo Blasters will perform concerts free of charge as a gift to the community, and for the first time, we have two summer performances from Lonely Street Productions. Weekly art classes will be taught with resident artist Rick Wheeler and photographer Jack Sassard will exhibit his work in the gallery throughout the summer. In June, CPAC will also conduct the an- nual summer arts camp for youth where students will produce a full scale musical! CPAC, a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization, is committed to providing memorable and thought provoking experiences through the arts while contributing to the quality of life in our community. GREEN VALLEY STAGE BAND With Vocalist Susan Artemis Thursday, March 8th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance - $20 at door Back for their annual CPAC concert, the Green Valley Stage Band has been delighting audiences throughout southern Arizona since 1990. This 20-piece band of musicians offers an eclectic blend of jazz standards from the big band era, as well as jazz interpretations of modern tunes. Original arrangements by band director Jim Parcel and band bassist Dave Rudloff add a unique flavor to the band’s sound. Appearing with the band this year is Tucson vocalist and pianist Susan Artemis. Wherever she performs, she charms audiences with her sultry voice and sophisticated piano interpretations of classic jazz standards by Gershwin, Cole Porter, and others. THE HEATH SHOW: STARRING HEATH HYCHE TAD Management Friday, March 9th at 3:00PM and 7:00PM Tickets: $25 in advance - $30 at door Get ready for THE HEATH SHOW! A one-man, high energy, comedic adventure! Heath uses stand-up comedy, quick-change costumes, original music, sound effects, and cleverly constructed props and scenery to take the audience on a journey through his vivid imagination and meet a cavalcade of manic characters. Heath Hyche’s TV credits include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Last Comic Standing and two seasons on Blue Collar TV alongside Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall. On the big screen, Heath appeared in the films Man on the Moon with Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell’s Talladega Nights. JACK LASSETER A Walk in the Desert Tuesday, March 13th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance - $20 at door Are you interested in this place where we live? Jack will take the audience for a “walk in the desert” and explore why jackrabbits have such long ears, why mountain lions’ forepaws are larger than their hind paws, why the cacti do their photosynthesis at night and have spines instead of leaves like other green plants, why the grooves on the south side of Saguaros are deeper and narrower than those on the north side, why barrels are called the “compass cactus” and much more about the desert’s flora and fauna, all of which will change forever how you view our desert home. Whether you are new to the desert or have lived here all your life, you will go away saying, “Wow, I didn’t know that.”

THE MUSIC OF SCOTT JOPLIN With Pianist Mimi Blais Friday, March 16th at 7:00PM Tickets: $20 in advance - $25 at door Montreal’s piano phenom, Mimi Blais, is one of the most highly trained and gifted pianists on the U.S. and international circuits, particularly noted for her flawless technique at the piano, her wit and charming French accent, and the humorous Gaslight Era personas she adds to her energetic and highly entertaining per- formances. Often dubbed the female Victor Borge, the Celine Dion of the keyboard, and the French Canadian Liberacette, Mimi is a top headliner at music festivals worldwide. She studied at the Quebec Conservatory of Music and McGill University in Montreal, earning advanced degrees in both classical piano and performing arts. Her performances are filled with humor, history, theatrics and music that will touch the soul. Mimi returns to CPAC with a special concert featuring the music and life of Scott Joplin commemorating the 150th anniversary of his birth. THE MAGIC OF MANILOW: A TRIBUTE TO BARRY MANILOW TAD Management Wednesday, March 21st at 3:00PM and 7:00PM Tickets: $25 in advance - $30 at door THE MAGIC OF MANILOW features Terry Davies and a line- up of musicians and vocalists paying homage to the music of one of the biggest selling artists of our time, Barry Manilow. Barry is best known for his catalogue of hits that include the chart topping “Mandy,” “Ready To Take A Chance Again,” “Could It Be Magic,” “Copacabana (At the Copa),” “I Write The Songs,” “Can’t Smile Without You” and many more. In the late 70’s five of Barry’s albums were on the best-selling charts, a feat equaled only by Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Mathis. Beginning in February of 2005, Manilow headlined hun- dreds of shows over a five year period at the Las Vegas Hilton followed by a two year stint at the Paris Hotel. FOX JAZZ ENSEMBLE Friday, March 23rd at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance - $20 at door The Fox Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Angelo Ver- sace, is one of three small jazz ensembles in the University of Arizona Jazz Program. It has historically been the premiere small group for the Fred Fox School of Music and has performed at various festivals including the Tucson Jazz Festival, The Onate Jazz Festival, and the annual AZ Jazz Week. The group performs a variety of material including jazz standards, and original stu- dent compositions and arrangements. MARIACHI ARIZONA Wednesday, March 28th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance - $20 at door Mariachi Arizona is comprised of students at the University of Arizona and is well known both on campus and across the region. With annual performances during halftime shows of football games and dozens of other venues, this high energy ensemble is not to be missed. Director Alberto Ranjel is a respected arranger, composer and educator. He has long served as the musical direc- tor of El Mariachi Tapatio de Tucson, where he has been a mem- ber for sixteen years, and is also an alumnus of the revered Mari- achi Los Changuitos Feos. Alberto has conducted performances in the United States, Mexico, Japan, Italy and Austria, bringing the art form to dozens of cultures and peoples for the first time. Alberto has been a favorite teacher and clinician at both the Tuc- son International Mariachi Conference and the Las Cruces Inter- national Mariachi Conference. From 2008 to 2014 he was the director of Mariachi Ariztlan de Tucson High School and taught music theory, guitar and choir. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Arizona and holds a Master of Education Leadership degree from NAU. If you’re Connie, Leona and Millie, three southern ladies from Birming- ham you do the most daring thing you’ve ever done. You “borrow” the ashes from the funeral home for one last card game and the wildest, most exciting night of their lives begins with a police raid, a stripper, laughs and a whole new way of looking at all the fun you can have when you’re truly living. This produc- tion is co-directed by Susan Ford and Diana Ouradnik.
DAN FRECHETTE AND LAUREL THOMSEN Wednesday, April 18th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance - $20 at door Meeting via a chance YouTube sighting, eclectic Roots-Folk songwriters Dan Frechette, guitar/harmonica/vocals, and Laurel Thomsen, violin/vocals are a match made in heaven. Lyrically refreshing and musically diverse, this Canadian-American duo logs over 150 concerts per year throughout the U.S. and Canada, and they have already released three radio charting albums! With broad influences from Folk, Classical, Celtic and Gospel, to Jazz, Country, Rock N' Roll and Bluegrass, Dan and Laurel flow seam- lessly through genres, stories and moods, keeping audience mem- bers on the edge of their seats. Highlights from the duo’s career have included the Winnipeg Folk Festival, opening for The Wailin’ Jennys and playing the oldest theater in Western Canada in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. Dan Frechette, multi-instrumentalist, uncanny impressionist and prolific singer-songwriter, has written over 1300 songs. Since the age of 17 he has released over 25 albums of original material and has been performing internationally since 1992. Dan has opened for the likes of Dar Williams, Richard Thompson, Ron Sexsmith and Blackie and The Rodeo Kings. He is considered one of Can- ada's best acoustic performers, inspiring the career paths of many internationally touring artists. Laurel Thomsen, California born genre-bending violinist, composer, published author, and re- spected educator, has performed classically and with a variety of bands and artists since 1998. She is the author of several multi- media string playing technique guides, a longtime Strings maga- zine contributor, and a dedicated instructor to violin and viola students around the world via Skype, Laurel is passionate about helping others find their musical expression. STRAIT COUNTRY A Tribute to the Music of George Strait Featuring Kevin Sterner and the Strait Country Band Thursday, April 19th and Friday, April 20th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance - $20 at door The Strait County Band, built around Kevin Sterner’s vocal style which is amazingly similar to George Strait's, prominently fea- tures the sounds of pedal steel guitar and fiddle. These two in- struments are key to the signature sound that has been George's trademark throughout his incredible 30-year career, they are what makes "Country Music" COUNTRY, and why he has always made them an integral part of his music! This concert showcases Hit after Hit from an incredible 60 Number One's and 83 Top Ten Hits, spanning all three decades. You will hear all-time favorites including Ocean Front Property, Amarillo By Morning, The Chair, All My Ex's Live in Texas, I Cross My Heart, Run and Give it Away as well as more current selections. With Kevin's stories and anecdotes about the songs and life of this "Living Legend" it often feels as if you are actually at one of George's shows!
EARLA PORCH: THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK With the Kathy Frank/Ken Barry Quartet Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance – $20 at door Earla porch is a jazz singer known to aficionados for her excep- tional clarity of tone and natural gift for interpreting the lyrics of musical standards. Described by the late, great Chet Baker as a beautiful singer, Earla captures an audience with her musicality and phenomenal strength of emotion. She is one of the very few vocalists that can make a standard sound new. She accomplishes this not by over-the-top vocal dramatization, but by a solid under- standing of the music and a sensitivity to what the lyricist is try- ing to express through the composition. Earla Porch, born in Cambridge, Mass, has appeared in clubs and concert venues in N.Y.C., Boston, LA, Paris, Tokyo and London. Through the years she has worked with jazz greats such as Chet Baker, Duke Jordan, Joe Pass and many others. On this engage- ment she'll be appearing with the outstanding Kathy Frank/Ken Barry quartet (piano, bass, drums and reeds). This program in- cludes many of her favorite composers from the 30's and 40's. The bell tone quality of her voice brings to life songs by Cole Porter, Rogers and Hart, George Gershwin, J. Burke/J. Van Hue- son, and many others. Earla is also a visual artist. Three of her bronze, jazz portrait sculptures will be on display in the CPAC lobby. THE KLEZMOPOLITANS Wednesday, May 2nd at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance – $20 at door One of the Southwest’s finest ensembles, the Klezmopolitans, began in 1984 and their name reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the music they play. They specialize in klezmer and Jewish mu- sic, but also play jazz standards, classical, Eastern European and gypsy music. Made up of five of Tucson’s most experienced and versatile musicians, the Klezmopolitans have played all across the region including a featured slot at the Western Regional Ju- daic Studies Conference. Klezmer music is a unique blend of Jewish and Eastern European folk music, but you don’t need to be Jewish to appreciate Klez- mer. Klezmer’s danceable rhythms and soulful melodies have delighted audiences since the beginning! The Klezmopolitans feature clarinetist and founding member, Jay Vosk, virtuoso jazz guitarist, Matt Mitchell, assistant principal bassist of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Jeff Holsen and one of Tucson’s busiest violinists, Michael Fan.
A MUSICAL TOUR DE FORCE With Marie Sierra and Hank Feldman Wednesday, May 16th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance – $20 at door From Gershwin to Andrew Lloyd Weber's CATS, to New Or- leans Blues and the Latin Rhythms of the Caribbean. Sit back and enjoy a sultry Tango, a Chopin classic and the powerhouse Malagueña! The journeys which both of their families took to arrive in the United States of America is remarkable in length, adversity and passion to seek a life with liberty. Throughout the concert you’ll hear how each piece of music represents a portion of the road travelled by their grandparents, parents and them- selves. Enrique’s heritage includes Odessa, Russia, Madrid, Spain, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mexico and the Yaqui Tribal Nation. Marie’s heritage is Cuban, where her parents were born. Marie Sierra is a pianist who performs in over 40 concerts annu- ally and is the pianist for the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, having toured Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, Hawaii, Rus- sia, Kazakhstan, and the Czech Republic. She has served on the music faculties of Belmont University and Vanderbilt Univer- sity in addition to being a studio musician in high demand. Marie earned her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Miami. Enrique “Hank” Feldman is an artist, educator and 2-Time Grammy Nominated Composer. His talents range from pianist to vocalist, musical director and conductor. Most recently, he served as the music director for Le Mis, CATS, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and A Christmas Carol, in addition to appearing as an orchestra member for two touring performances of CHI- CAGO. Enrique is also a film composer (Gun Hill Road/ Cruzando), pianist and producer. He is a former professor of music at the University of Arizona and University of Wisconsin. SANTA CRUZ SUMMER WINDS “Reflections in Granite” - A Memorial Day Concert Tribute Monday, May 28th at 3:00 PM Tickets: $15 in advance - $20 at door The Santa Cruz Summer Winds pays special tribute to veterans of The Vietnam War, in this honorary concert in salute to the heart and soul of our nation. Works to include: Heroes Lost and Fallen (A Vietnam Memorial) by David Gillingham, Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber, Black Granite by James Hosay, and many more. This concert will be unlike any other! The Santa Cruz Summer Winds is a 50-member concert band, composed of talented musicians from throughout southern Arizona. The Santa Cruz Summer Winds is founded and operated by Manag- ers, April and Zack Brennan, and their Lead Musical Director Taylor Mitchell. Their concert is brought to you by The Santa Cruz Music Groups, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedi- cated to musical excellence in southern Arizona.
PETER RONSTADT AND LOS TUCSONENSES Friday, June 1st at 7:00PM Tickets: $20 in advance – $25 at door Peter Dalton Ronstadt, a fifth generation Ronstadt in Tucson, son of late Michael J. Ronstadt, nephew of Linda Ronstadt, and great grandson of Federico Jose Maria Ronstadt, aims to explore the musical heritage of his family while presenting new and original material. Along with his band of Tucsonans, Los Tucsonenses, Petie paints a musical picture of the American Southwest by pre- senting music from the region, music from Mexico, collected favorites, songs of his father, and new songs that draw inspiration from all the elements of his upbringing. With a lush tapestry of instruments along with unique arrangements, enjoy an evening while Petie and Los Tucsonenses take you on a musical journey that will lift spirits and stir memories. TESS REDMOON COMBO Presented by the Tucson Jazz Society Wednesday, June 6th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance – $20 at door Tess Redmoon is known as a multi-faceted & emotive jazz/ classical flutist and vocalist with a wide ranging repertoire rang- ing from jazz to latin and from pop to classical. She has been a member of many jazz, rock, world, and classical groups and has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Having re- corded four albums of jazz, original and renaissance music as band leader, she also regularly adds her flute and vocals on re- cordings as a studio musician. Listeners remark on her ability to create an emotional resonance for them, charming and enriching them with beauty and passion. Not only does Tess improvise on flute and sing, she also performs on guitar and cello. You’ll hear jazz standards and originals as well as songs in French, Spanish, Portuguese a la Edith Piaf, Juan Tizol and Antonio Carlos Jobim! MAN IN BLACK: THE MUSIC OF JOHNNY CASH Lonely Street Productions Wednesday, June 27th at 7:00PM Tickets: $25 in advance – $30 at door Celebrate the life and music of Johnny Cash with this critically acclaimed concert featuring the most popular songs from his nearly 50-year career. Starring Robert Shaw and the Lonely Street Band playing your favorites from the early days of "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk the Line" through "Ring of Fire" and "A Boy Named Sue." This concert brings to life the authentic Cash sound that's been described as "steady like a train, sharp like a razor." HEARTBREAK HOTEL: A SALUTE TO EARLY ELVIS Lonely Street Productions Wednesday, August 8th at 7:00PM Tickets: $25 in advance – $30 at door Elvis comes to Green Valley, commemorating the 41st anniver- sary of The King’s passing. This critically acclaimed concert production features the early music of Elvis, belting out hits from the first part of his career, in the mid-1950's through the early 60's. Starring Robert Shaw and the Lonely Street Band, the show kicks off with Elvis' first recordings at Sun Records in Memphis ("That's All Right, Mama," "Good Rockin' Tonight"), through his chart topping years at RCA records (Dont' Be Cruel," "Hound Dog"), and even highlighting the King's hits from his first movies ("Jailhouse Rock," "Love Me Tender"). This show is chock full hip-swiveling, toe-tapping fun!

AN EVENING OF JAZZ NOIR WITH THE PETE SWAN QUARTET Featuring To-Ree-Nee Wolf Wednesday, September 5th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance – $20 at door This concert brings together some of the top jazz musicians in the southwest. Take a journey with the Pete Swan Quintet and To- Ree-Nee Wolf through the blues and jazz associated with the film noir style of the late 50’s and early 60’s. To-Ree-Nee Wolf is an internationally acclaimed award-winning artist, singer, song writer and actor. Having recently finished a sold out run as the lead in “Black Pearl Sings!” at Invisible Thea- tre, she brings a wealth of creativity and artistic expression to every project she is involved with. Her original mural called "Creation Story, Chaos Theory and Quantum Memory" has helped reinvigorate the downtown Tucson area. Pete Swan is a drummer, producer, bandleader, educator and author. He has studied and been inspired by his teachers; Don Worth, Mel Brown, Gary Cook, Jeff Hamilton and Artt Frank. He has performed with a long list of notable artists including: Bud Shank, Bob Florence, Doug Webb, John Clayton, Terrell Stafford, The Clayton –Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Bill Mays, Bob Mover, Kristin Korb, Judy Roberts, Greg Fishman and many others. As a producer and co-producer he has put together hundreds of shows, including New Year’s Eve with Rick Braun, as part of Swanrise productions, and jazz shows with Ali Ryerson, Marcus Printup, Mike Eckroth, Emmett Cohen, Greg Abate, Mark Pompe, Greg Fishman and Judy Roberts and many others. He is the leader and drummer of Big Band Express, featuring some of the top profes- sionals in the southwest producing shows dedicated to Ella Fitz- gerald, Buddy Rich, and Frank Sinatra.
GREEN VALLEY SUMMER CHORUS Saturday, September 15th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15 in advance – $20 at door Join the Green Valley Summer Chorus in celebrating their fifth annual summer concert here at CPAC. This forty-voice ensemble, under the direction of Tamara Kahrimanis, will feature a variety of music ranging across the choral repertoire. The majority of the chorus members currently perform in the Green Valley Commu- nity Chorus (GVCC), a non-profit choir composed of approxi- mately 80 enthusiastic voices from surrounding southern Arizona communities. Their mission is to bring beautiful music from all eras of history to our community through quality performances of great choral works, both sacred and secular. Funds from this con- cert will benefit both the Community Performance and Art Center and the various philanthropic endeavors of the (GVCC). ARIZONA BANJO BLASTERS Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00PM Admission is free (tickets required) The Arizona Banjo Blasters were founded in 2007 by Rob Wright with the purpose of promoting the legacy of the four string banjo. Experience within the band spans the spectrum from rookies with only a few years of experience to seasoned professionals with over 50 years of experience. New members from beginners to professionals are always welcome to join the group. The Arizona Banjo Blasters are currently a band of 18 banjos, washboards and a bass. Their music will bring back happy memories with lively renditions of songs from the past century. You won’t be able to sit still as your toes start tapping along with songs you know and recognize but haven’t sung for years. The Blasters are an all volunteer, 501c3 nonprofit corporation and all funds raised from performances are donated to local charities. They have fun, and we know you will too! Packages, Groups and Single Tickets Flex Pass: Purchase five different performances through CPAC office in a single transaction and get sixth performance of equal or lesser value free, or purchase all 11 summer shows (April 25—September 15) for $165. Group Sales: A discount of 10% is offered for groups of 10 or more when purchased in a single transaction Ticket Locations: Tickets may be purchased via phone at (520) 399-1750, online at www.performingartscenter.org or at the CPAC office at 1250 West Conti- nental Road, Green Valley, AZ (1 mile west of I-19). Reserved Seating: Seating is reserved and typically follows the chart below (yellow lower level/accessible seating and purple upper level seating). Tickets pur- chased at the door are an additional five dollars. A one dollar per ticket convenience fee will be charged for phone and internet orders. Tickets may only be exchanged for different dates and times of the same performance. All sales are final and non- refundable. If you are not able to attend a performance and would like to donate your tickets back to CPAC, you will be issued a donor letter to be used for tax purposes.

Facility and Rental Information The Community Performance and Art Center (CPAC) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit arts organization that serves residents of the Santa Cruz Valley and surrounding areas. CPAC presents a wide variety of programming representing all facets of the arts. The complex includes a 203 seat theater, art gallery and multi-purpose space. The Center is committed to providing the best in arts entertainment and believes that the arts are vital to the quality of life in our community. CPAC annually stages more than 110 performances while host- ing dozens of visual art exhibits, workshops and classes. In ad- dition, CPAC rents facilities for rehearsals, meetings, weddings, parties and other community gatherings. More than 35,000 peo- ple visit the Center annually.
