EARLA PORCH:
THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
With the Kathy Frank/Ken Barry Quartet
Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00PM
Tickets: $15 in advance – $20 at door

Earla porch is a jazz singer known to aficionados for her excep-
tional clarity of tone and natural gift for interpreting the lyrics of
musical standards. Described by the late, great Chet Baker as a
beautiful singer, Earla captures an audience with her musicality
and phenomenal strength of emotion. She is one of the very few
vocalists that can make a standard sound new. She accomplishes
this not by over-the-top vocal dramatization, but by a solid under-
standing of the music and a sensitivity to what the lyricist is try-
ing to express through the composition.

Earla Porch, born in Cambridge, Mass, has appeared in clubs and
concert venues in N.Y.C., Boston, LA, Paris, Tokyo and London.
Through the years she has worked with jazz greats such as Chet
Baker, Duke Jordan, Joe Pass and many others. On this engage-
ment she'll be appearing with the outstanding Kathy Frank/Ken
Barry quartet (piano, bass, drums and reeds). This program in-
cludes many of her favorite composers from the 30's and 40's.
The bell tone quality of her voice brings to life songs by Cole
Porter, Rogers and Hart, George Gershwin, J. Burke/J. Van Hue-
son, and many others. Earla is also a visual artist. Three of her
bronze, jazz portrait sculptures will be on display in the CPAC
lobby.
