Östersund took first place when the retail trade’s magazine ’Market’ conducted their 2018 survey of Sweden’s best city shopping. The variety of fine dining, the range of stores, the pleasant surroundings and genuine wel- coming atmosphere were some of the topics which received high ratings. In the survey undertaken, over 40 city centres and among 3 400 individual partici- pants over the age of 15 were interviewed. ’It’s first and foremost a wonderful confir- mation that we are on the correct course in the development of the city centre’, says Calle Hedman, project leader at Destina- tion Östersund. Calle and his colleagues work closely with the city’s restaurants and shop owners to create a city centre with a nice atmosphere, good tastes, shopping and activities for all ages. Where we as Östersunders thrive, those who come to visit will also thrive. Our stores and restaurants have understood this really well. Östersund is well-known for its many small boutiques, stores and its gastrono- mic offerings. The large retail chain-stores are supplemented by the local-craft shops, the food halls with their wonderful delica- tessens, the shoemakers in the side alleys, the furnishing shops next to Storgatan and the many smaller boutiques with their jewellery and fashions. In between these stores one finds food stalls for all tastes – from vegan, sushi and grills to fine dining on Jämtland’s natural resources. In a vibrant city centre one will always find something to look forward to. We wish you a warm welcome! Emelie Strand www.visitostersund.se 13

TRY THE NEW SPORT - PADEL Padel is one of the world´s fastest growing sports. It is played in doubles on an enclosed court about half the size of a tennis court. Scoring is the same as normal tennis and the balls used are pretty much identical. The main differences between the tennis and padel are that the court has walls and the balls can be played off the walls in a similar way as in the game of squash. Solid, stringless racquets are used. Try padel at Frösö Park (two indoor courts) or outdoors (one court) at Lövbergaparken. WORK OUT ALL SUMMER There´s nothing that makes you feel better than being outdoor and enjoying a nice workout.
