Applying to the UK: English language requirements ➢ You may have to take a specific English language test, such as IELTS ➢ Most universities will demand at least 6.5 up to 7.5 or more in an IELTS test, equivalent to B2+/C1 CEFR level ➢ Students in OIB are usually (but not systematically) exempt from specific language testing, especially when producing documented evidence ➢ IGCSE/CAE certificates, grade C and upwards may also be accepted ➢ Students should contact universities individually to find out about specific English language requirements ➢ If students have any problems getting language qualifications recognised, they should contact the UCAS coordinator. ➢ IN ALL CASES, YOU WILL NOT NEED TO PROVE LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS UNTIL AUGUST 31ST OF THE YEAR YOU ARE PLANNING TO START YOUR COURSE 1 o So there is no need to rush to take an IELTS test! 6

UK: What Happens Post- Application? ➢Before January 15th 2022 o The UCAS coordinator will validate applications and send them off to UCAS o This can only be done once the UCAS form has been entirely completed and payment made ➢For March 31st 2022 o Applicants should receive offers from some or all universities selected o This is not guaranteed, however, and students without offers should make an appointment with the UCAS advisor to look at alternatives, such as UCAS EXTRA o Universities will make conditional offers. This means the overall grade a university will require an applicant to get at the baccalaureate as well as, in some cases, grades for specific subjects 2 o See next slide for some more non-contractual information to help you make choices. 1
UK: What Happens Post- Application? ➢For May 5th 2022 o Students reply to UCAS, accepting two offers, a “firm” acceptance and an “insurance” acceptance o Students decline all other offers ➢When the Results Come Out o Applicants may get a place on both choices, depending how well their exams go. They can then confirm their firm and reject their insurance choice o Applicants may not get their firm choice grades but do well enough to accept their insurance choice o Applicants may not get either firm or insurance offers but be offered an alternative by the university/college – a 'changed course offer' (which they'll need to accept or decline) o Applicants may not get a place, but they can search through the UCAS Clearing service to see what courses still have vacancies. In this case, it is strongly advised to make an appointment with the UCAS coordinator o Applicants may do better than expected and consider a new, more ambitious choice altogether 2 through UCAS adjustment 2
