23 Bob Espen, one of ARTrails founding members, died on February 22, 2021. If you never met Bob or got a chance to know him, you missed out on an amazing man. He was an absolute magician when it came to wood. He could see shapes and designs that were invisible to others, and he brought out the very best from every burl, chunk of wood, and even metal that he touched. He also brought out the best in the people around him. Bob was supportive, generous, and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He loved to talk about wood, and art, and his family, and your family and the things that he was excited about, the things you were excited about, things he had seen, ideas and inspirations, how gorgeous a day was or how the rain and gloom would just make that upcoming gorgeous day that much better — face it, he loved to talk. He was a teacher and one of the best encouragers most of us have ever been encouraged by. He has left a giant Bob-shaped hole and we miss him.
