Our Mission • The mission of the STMA Girls Basketball Club (STMA GBC) is to provide the girls in our communities the opportunity to develop, learn, and enjoy the game of basketball at a competitive level. Our goal at all levels, is to provide an environment that encourages good sportsmanship in a fun, healthy, and competitive playing environment that allows players to grow not only as basketball players, but also as people. • This will be accomplished through not only a focus on teaching skill development and the understanding of the game of basketball, but also through promoting hard work, dedication, and good sportsmanship.
Our Philosophy • The Philosophy of the STMA GBC embodies a basketball structure of teaching, developing, competing and striving to win for all student athletes. Success is about more than just wins and losses, it’s about building life values and character. These qualities include honesty, loyalty, courage, respect, and unselfishness. • STMA GBC actively promotes and supports girls’ basketball through four key principles: Have Fun! Respect Work Hard No “I” in Team! These elements provide the foundation for our Mission and Philosophy, applicable at all competitive levels, without exception.

Travel Logistics
Playing Time • All 4th- 6th grade playing time is to be as close to equal as possible, per tournament. • All 7th - 8th grade playing time does not have to be equal. • For 7th - 8th grade, every player should receive 25% minimum playing time across a tournament. • Actual playing time per player could vary from game to game but should be in line with the playing time policy over the course of a tournament. • All parents must recognize that strict adherence to the equal playing time policy per game cannot be guaranteed due to player substitution patterns, a player’s foul situation, player injuries and other factors that the coach may encounter. • Our playing time policy tries to achieve the balance between development and competition.
Travel Costs • Registration cost: $350.00 which includes: • $30.00 tryout fee • STMA warm up shirt • Season pass to varsity games • 11 tournaments • Additional $90 cost if a uniform is needed (new uniform style for 4th graders!) • Total of $440.00 with travel fee • Tournament fee (New) • Some tournaments are going with a “no gate fee” registration model. • Once we’ve registered our teams, we will ask for a check from each family to cover those tournaments using this model (likely 3-4 @ $20 per tournament). • The $20 per tournament charge will be per family, not per player. • Families and spectators will not pay gate fees at those tournaments. • Volunteer deposit - $300 • Volunteer hours must be fulfilled at our host tournament. There will be no other opportunities to volunteer. Families will be emailed prior to any checks being cashed.
Volunteer Requirements • Parents are required to volunteer their time during season to support the program, meet other parents, and help keep costs down. • 6 hours (for 1 player) • 8 hours (for 2 or more players) • 4 hours (shared between a team’s 2 coaching families, Head and Assistant) • Volunteer hour requirements may be reduced depending on staffing needs at our tournament. • Your $300 volunteer check is destroyed upon completion of your hours. • Volunteer Opportunities • STMA Girls Basketball Shootout Classic - January 9th – 10th, 2021
Volunteer Requirements (continued) Why should I volunteer? • Every player in the STMA GBC Program benefits equally as the funds are used to offset increases in costs. • Examples: Tournament entry fees, gym rental fees, camps, and youth nights. • We are asking that all of the families that are touched by the STMA Girls Basketball Program, whether you are involved with the travel program, have a daughter playing on a high school team or just a person passionate about STMA girls basketball, consider getting involved with the STMA Girls Basketball Club.
Travel head coaches/assistants • All head coaches completed an interview process. • Background checks will be completed on all coaches. • Coaches are required to complete concussion and coaching training using MYAS tool entitled, “Trusted Coaches.” • Remember Coaches are volunteering their time – Please respect them!
Travel teams Our goal for each travel team is 8 – 10 players. • There are exceptions due to circumstances. • Exceptions are vetted within the STMA GBC Board.
COVID-19 Precautions
Practice Time • The STMA GBC will work with coaches to determine practice schedule for each team. Younger grades will have 1st choice of all early practice times, if available. • Practice will begin in mid-October, with usually 1-2 practices a week on a varying schedule, depending on the gym space available that week. • The majority of practices are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but there will be some Friday practices during the year. • Younger girls are usually scheduled earlier in the evening and older girls later in the evening; practices times are 6:00–7:30 or 7:30–9:00. • Players are required to bring their own game quality basketball and water bottles to practice. The drinking fountains will likely be shut off. • Players and coaches must wear a mask as they enter and exit the facility. Masks can be removed as the players change shoes and are ready to practice. Hand sanitizer before and after practice. • Parents or family members should not enter the school for any reason. Players should be dropped off and picked up outside the school.
Practice Time (continued) • There will be no unscheduled practices at the Activity Center (AC). • If teams wish to add additional practices, they need to go through Community Education. • This includes having 4 or more players from a team meeting at the Activity Center with 2-3 coaches supervising. Failure to follow this rule will result in teams losing regular scheduled practices. • The AC or Community Education Center staff will inform the STMA Girls Basketball Club of any violations. A few extra practices are not going to make or break your season.
• Traveling teams will play 11 tournaments during 2020-2021 season • Some teams may play in additional tournaments, depending upon the team’s preference. • Any fees associated with the extra tournaments will be the responsibility of the parents of the team and all added tournaments must be approved by the STMA GBC Board. • Most tournaments are in nearby communities with the exception of one overnight tournament in Brainerd on February 20th – 21st. • The STMA GBC has hotel rooms booked for the Brainerd Tournament. • Information is available on the Travel page of our website, and a reminder email will be sent. • Tournaments are on the weekends and some may have Friday night games, but most have games on Saturday and Sunday. • Typically there is a minimum of 3 games per weekend.

Handling Issues • A parent should be encouraged to bring any questions or concerns to the Head Coach, preferably away from the basketball court and any team setting. • We advise parents and players to wait 24 hours following an incident. • This gives all parties a chance to cool down, vent with others and/or seek advice from others, and attempt to see the other side's point of view. • If, after discussing an issue with your daughter’s coach and you are still not satisfied with the coach’s response, you should contact Aaron Eisen or Ryan Voigt with your concerns.
STMA GBB Website • The STMA GBC website www.stmagbb.com is the primary source of information. • Team page can be a central place for team communication. • Other tools including email and team mobile applications can be used at a coach’s discretion. • Website is used by the STMA GBC to communicate with all families and members. • Your email address within your profile is the email address the STMA GBC and Coaches use to communicate with you. • Please keep your email current with your coach and in your profile on www.stmagbb.com with SportsEngine to ensure you are receiving communications.
