Following the group stage, St. Kitts-Nevis competed against Dominican Republic on Sunday 22nd September, 2019 at Warner Park. Our hopes to the Olympic Qualifiers were crushed as we were defeated two goals to nil. The SKNFA expresses its sincere gratitude to the St. Kitts Nevis Olympic Committee for their invaluable financial and other contribution to the development of our U23 Male Olympic Team. The SKNOC contributed over Fifty Thousand United States Dollars (US $50,000.00) towards the preparation of the St. Kitts-Nevis US Male Olympic Team. National Senior Men’s Team The year under review saw the St. Kitts-Nevis Senior Men’s National Team competing in League B of the Concacaf Nations League. Team St. Kitts-Nevis commenced their campaign in September versus Grenada, French Guiana and Belize. The Nations League were played on a home and away basis with hopes of advancing to League A and the Concacaf Gold Cup. The expectations for the Nations League did not go as planned as St. Kitts-Nevis finished bottom of the table and was demoted to League C for the next Nations League cycle. This is a major disappointment given the team’s previous success rate. Nevertheless, the SKNFA will continue to work tirelessly to develop and prepare the Senior Men’s National Team for their future matches. 34 SKNFA 2020 ORDINARY CONGRESS 30th August, 2020

Tributes During the year under review, the football family said farewell to the following persons: Kennedy Isles – St. Kitts-Nevis National Player On Friday 24th January 2020, the community of Newtown and the football fraternity in St. Kitts and Nevis was shocked by the news of the tragic death of Kennedy or “K” as he is affectionately known to everyone who knew him. From a very young age Kennedy always displayed a great belief in his own abilities and was very confident that given the opportunity he would have been instrumental in helping his team to achieve success on the field of play. As a football family, we have lost one of our own but his legacy certainly will live on in our memory for a long time. Not only have we lost a most talented and skillful footballer but also a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, and a teammate. Words cannot express how heartbroken we are for the tragic death of this young talented footballer. Valerie Whyte – Physio In the death of Valarie Whyte, the St. Kitts-Nevis football has lost one of its pillars and one who at the time of her passing was justly considered a craft of her specialty. The passing of Valarie is an incalculable loss to her family, to her community and in particular Garden Hotspurs, Rams Village Superstars and the football fraternity. It is hard to find suitable words to pay tribute to this truly remarkable woman. It is fortunate that during her life she had the satisfaction of knowing the high esteem in which she was held by her colleagues. Her smile was like sunshine-radiant that took up her entire face. She had fire and a witty personality. Valarie got involved in football because she was very passionate about the sport and cared about the wellbeing of the players from her community. She began with the Garden Hotspurs Football Club serving as physiotherapist for the men’s Premier Division team before her stint as coach of the women’s team. It is very safe to say and note that Valarie was the only female to have ever served on a male and female technical staff in the SKNFA Leagues.
Tributes During the year under review, the football family said farewell to the following persons: Lloyd Lazar – Former National Footballer and Sports Administrator Mr. Lloyd Lazar departed life on 12th August, 2020. He developed a relationship with the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association when at the age of 16 he was a member of the Grammar School Football Team. He played for the Santos Football Team on leaving school and was a formidable defence player and captain of the victorious Santos Football Team. During his high interest in elevating his discipline of sports he accepted an attachment to the Ministry of Sports and became a most sought after sports administrator. His competences catapulted him to the Ministry of Sports and Tourism where he committed himself to National Service in Sports Administration and commitment to this family life and church and Permanent Secretary.
Football & Covid-19 The Covid-19 Pandemic paused the playing of football across St. Kitts-Nevis. Due to the restrictions placed on sports, no matches were played. During this time, the SKNFA undertook a number of initiatives to keep players and fans active. SKNFA 2020 ORDINARY CONGRESS 51 30th August, 2020

SKNFA Launches “Football Is Back” The St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association launched its Football is Back Campaign on Sunday 16th August, 2020. The association presented its member clubs with brand new equipment needed in becoming COVID ready to resume football such as: thermometers, hand sanitizers, water bottles and new footballs to be used in training. Each team received enough water bottles to give each player a bottle as the COVID guidelines prohibit the sharing of water bottles among players. The “Football is Back” campaign will feature a series of practice matches in the lead up to an eventual return of competitive football providing that the new regulations issued by the government allows for this.
