COVID UPDATE
On October 18, 2021, Bishop Fabbro implemented a policy on vaccinations. The policy is work related and ministry
related; it does NOT require those who attend religious services in our churches to be vaccinated. The Diocese of London
is committed to providing safe places of worship, to providing safe workplaces and meeting spaces. Getting a vaccination
helps protect our most vulnerable and makes it possible to do ministry in hospitals and long-term care homes and to visit
the home-bound and schools.
It is expected that all bishops, priests, deacons, lay ecclesial ministers, staff and volunteers will be fully vaccinated in
accordance with the requirements of Health Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Health.
The Diocese will not force anyone to get a vaccination, but volunteers and staff must have a vaccine BY December 2,
2021, to perform their parish ministry.

THE NOVEMBER CHALLENGE: A MONTH TO REMEMBER
November arrived this week. Tuesday, we celebrated Mass and the Commemoration of All the Faithful
Departed. This coming Thursday is Remembrance Day. The federal department of Veterans Affairs
Canada states that the date is of "remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to
serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.” During all the days in November, our
challenge is for you to remember someone or something significant to you and follow through with a
phone call, or an email or a letter, perhaps a journal entry, and/or say a prayer for that significant
someone or something.

Remembering Our Loved Ones
Dear God,
We thank you for the wonderful memories we have of our departed loved ones.
We are grateful when these memories bring us happiness and comfort.
Help us to continue to keep the memories of our loved ones alive by living out the gifts and virtues we treasured so
much in their lives.
May our remembrance of them in this way help their spirit to live on in us, and may the virtues contribute to
building your kingdom here on earth. Amen
(Novalis, 2020)

                    November 11 - WE REMEMBER
2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Poppy in Canada
Madame Anna Guerin, later christened “The Poppy Lady from France” inspired by John
McCrae’s “In Flanders Fields,” had an idea: to adopt the distribution of the Poppy on
Armistice Day as a way to raise money for Veterans’ needs and to remember those who
had given their lives during the First World War. In July of 1921 the Great War Veterans
Association, now the Canadian Legion, adopted the poppy as the flower of Remembrance.

Red Wednesday 2021
Aid to the Church in Need, a Pontifical Charity, is organizing Red Wednesday on November 17 to highlight the
327 million Christians who live where there is persecution and discrimination against them. More information is

Development and Peace — Caritas Canada’s People and Planet First campaign.
Let’s stand with the oppressed in their quest for recognition
In Honduras and Cambodia, organizations supported by Development and Peace are raising the voices of
communities oppressed by a model of economic development that violates their rights. The Honduran Center
for the Promotion of Community Development (CEHPRODEC) trains environmental leaders to defend natural
resources, the environment and human rights. In Cambodia, Development and Partnership in Action (DPA)’s
mission is, in part, to enable communities affected by extractive industries to gain advocacy skills so they can
organize and defend their rights. We can support these partners by recognizing the role we can play in an
unjust global system and taking action to change it. This year, the action highlighted by the People and Planet
First campaign is about holding Canadian companies accountable for their operations abroad - to ensure that
Canada is not complicit in the violation of the rights of our brothers and sisters. At mass next weekend, you
will be asked to sign a petition calling on the House of Commons to adopt human rights and due diligence
legislation. Find out more information at https://www.devp.org/en/campaign/people-planet-first/
World Day of the Poor
The 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, November 14, 2021 marks the fifth World Day of the Poor, which was
established by Pope Francis in 2017. The members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) in your parish
promote awareness and work hard to help address the needs of those who are poor. We invite you to learn
more about the SSVP in your parish/area and discover how you might be able to assist them in their work.
Consider making a donation so that they may respond to the needs of others. You can donate directly to
your local Conference or Particular Council or direct your generous gift to them using the donation form at
this link, A reminder there is always a need for donations of clothing and used items if there is a SSVP store in
your area.

Priest Pension Fund
From its inception in 1856, the Diocese of London has been blessed by many priests who have devoted their
lives to the vocation of priestly service. These holy men have accompanied generations of the faithful as we
live our earthly lives and draw closer to the living Christ.
The priesthood is a calling for life. It is also a calling for your life. When a man is ordained, he agrees to take
on pastoral responsibility for the lives of others. He accepts the very best, and very worst, of our lives. He joins
couples in marriage and baptizes our children. He prays with our sick, he will pray over our dead. He visits
children in school, helps feed the poor, and prays for those imprisoned literally as well as figuratively. He
hears our confessions. He ignites our hearts with God’s word and love.
The priesthood is a call for life but eventually the time comes when every priest will retire. The retirement age
for a priest is 70, health permitting. Even after retirement, many priests are able to continue to serve in other
ways, for example: celebrating Mass at a parish when needed, serving on a committee, or writing a book of
religious importance.
We, the people of the Diocese of London, are thankful for all that our priests do for us. We are determined to
care for them in their elder years, as they have cared for us.
The annual collection for the priest pension fund will take place November 13-14. Please give
generously. Every dollar collected will be professionally and independently stewarded by the
St. John the Evangelist Pension Fund Society to benefit our retired priests.
If you would like to make a donation right now, simply click here. Thank you!
Please also pray for our priests be they active or retired, as well as those who have passed on.

‘Come and See’ Discernment Weekend at the Seminary
St. Peter's Seminary invites you to a discernment retreat for men age 17 years old and older that are
considering a call to the priesthood from November 19 to November 21. This in-person weekend at the
Seminary offers a firsthand experience of the life of a seminarian, provides spiritual help for discernment and
offers the opportunity to meet current seminarians and faculty. Please contact Fr. Danny Santos
at vocations@dol.ca for more information, or go to www.dolpriest.ca/registration to register. Since this is an in-
person event, proof of double vaccination status will be required. A poster for your parish or office is at this link.

Men’s Morning Reflection for the Year of St. Joseph - Save the Date
On Saturday 4 December 2021, the Pastoral Services Office will be hosting a Men’s Day of Reflection from 9
a.m. to noon. As the Year of St. Joseph comes to a close, this time of reflection is an opportunity for men to
grow in understanding St. Joseph – a man of faith, a family man and a person who cared for those in need.
Presenters include Most Rev. Bishop Joseph Dabrowski, C.S.M.A, Tom Ketelaars and Zack Fitzmaurice. The
reflection will take place via Zoom, so you can participate from the comfort of your own home. More information
is here and registration is now open at this link.
King’s Veritas Lecture
The next speaker is Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, CM, Ed.D., whose lecture is entitled, "Amidst the
Fray: Catholic Universities and the Intellectual Life." This will take place on Thursday, November 18,
2021 at 7:00 p.m. To register for this lecture click here. The Veritas Lecture Series engages speakers
from a variety of backgrounds to explore the depth of human experience and to articulate the truth –
the fullness of humanity – to which we aspire. The Catholic Intellectual Tradition welcomes and
embraces this exploration as a participation in the common good that enhances the world we inhabit.
