2 BMO Financial Group Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships The BMO Financial Group Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship program highlights exceptional high school graduates who combine outstanding leadership potential with academic giftedness. Each scholarship is valued at $16,000, allocated over four years of study. A total of nine awards will be given out to students entering any of the direct-entry programs of the University of Manitoba. Six of the awards will be given to students graduating from a high school within Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, and three of the awards will be given out at the national level to students graduating from a Canadian high school found outside of Manitoba. 3 Nellie McClung Trailblazer Scholarships The Nellie McClung Trailblazer Scholarships are for female students considering careers in the exciting fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), business, fine arts or underrepresented trades. Careers in these areas offer excellent job opportunities, great earning potential and stimulating work environments. Grade 12 students: Five awards of $1,000.00 will be granted to female students in grade 12 who have demonstrated an aptitude in an area of study that could lead to further education and/or careers in STEM, business, fine arts, or underrepresented trades. Who is eligible to receive an award: The Nellie McClung Trailblazer Scholarships are open to self-identified female students who are studying and living in Manitoba and are Manitoba Residents. Open to female students currently enrolled in Grade 12 in a public or private secondary educational institution in Manitoba. The following criteria will be considered in selecting award recipients: academic standing, demonstration of leadership in school and community activities, demonstration of an interest and aptitude in a future career in STEM, business, fine arts or underrepresented trades, representation of the diversity of Manitoba’s population, regional and program representation. Completed applications must be received by the Nellie McClung Foundation by 11:59 p.m. CST on March 1, 2022. Late applications will not be considered. RBC Indigenous Student Awards Program The RBC Indigenous Student Awards Program was launched in 1992 to assist Indigenous students to complete post-secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen its relationship with the Indigenous community. This scholarship is intended to support Indigenous students in their post-secondary studies. Scholarship recipients are selected primarily on the basis of personal and academic achievements, and individual financial need. Status Indians*, Non-status Indians, Inuit and Metis are welcome to apply. Selected students will receive up to $10,000 per academic year for educational and living expenses for 2 to 4 years. *As defined in Section 2 (1) of the Indian Act RBC awards twenty scholarships, there are no restrictions on the field or discipline of study. 4 Marc Lynch Scholarship Award The Marc Lynch Scholarship Award is a legacy in honor of Marc Lynch of Randall Plumbing & Heating Ltd. Marc passed away January 5, 2016. He was a quiet strength behind the Mechanical Contractors Association of Manitoba. He had a vision of what this Association should be and passionately communicated that vision to the staff and the Board of Directors. The Association intends to carry out his vision of excellence in the industry. This scholarship is meant for the MCAM member companies as well as family members of their staff and will be awarded to students pursuing their first year of a post- secondary program in the fall term following this application at any recognized educational institution and may be in any discipline. This Scholarship is intended for MCAM member companies’ staff and families. It will be awarded to students pursuing their first year of a post- secondary program (in the fall-term following the deadline of this application) in any recognized educational institution and discipline. The Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority is offering two scholarships to be awarded to two female students selected from applicants who will be graduating from high schools in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division in June 2022. Each scholarship will be for $600.00. The scholarship selection committee for 2022 will consist of four members of the Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa and the committee will select the two recipients. Criteria for applicants: 1. Female student graduating from a St. James-Assiniboia high school. 2. Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. 3. Manitoba resident. 4. Will be entering the Faculty of Education or University One with an intention to enter the Faculty of Education when able or a Child Care Program at a post-secondary institution in September 2022. 5. Will submit proof of registration at a university or college by either submitting a copy of the letter of acceptance or submit a letter from the school counsellor verifying acceptance. 6. Will submit a transcript of her first semester Grade 12 marks plus a copy of a midterm second semester report card of 40S courses and any other 40 level courses. 7. Will submit letters of reference from two teachers and/or administrators to attest to her character and ability.
5 8. Will submit a letter of no more than one type-written page, double spaced, explaining her choice of education/child care as a career. 9. Will provide mailing address, telephone number and email address so the applicant can be reached if further information is required. 10. Will provide a listing of extracurricular activities, work experience, and community service. 11. Will provide a recent photo attached to the application for the Sorority’s records. The successful recipients must meet all of the criteria indicated above. The major determining factor in the selection of scholarship recipients will be academic achievement. Further information is available from your grade level guidance counsellor. 6 Curl Manitoba CurlManitoba is pleased to make four $1,500 scholarships available to any active junior curler entering or in post-secondary education. They may apply if affiliated as a junior during the year of application. Aerospace Scholarship o Three $1,000 Aerospace Industry Scholarships are available to be awarded, annually. 7 Legion Bursaries & Scholarships The Royal Canadian Legion is committed to supporting Veterans and their families and offers financial assistance for post-secondary education to those in need. Poppy Trust Fund bursaries As part of the Legion’s commitment to Veterans and their families, Legion Branches may grant bursaries through the Poppy Trust Fund to the children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren of Veterans who need financial assistance to pursue a post-secondary education. These bursaries can make a difference for Veterans’ families and offers these children an opportunity to further their educational goals. Bursaries may be granted at any stage of a college or university program. Local Branches and Provincial Commands develop their eligibility requirements, deadlines and application procedures. Contact the local Legion Branch in your area for further information and assistance. Scholarships As part of the Legion’s commitment to youth, many Branches award scholarships through their General Funds to recognize scholastic achievement and support youth in their community. Criteria for these funds are established by the Branch or Provincial Command. With universal access to education yet to be achieved in Canada, and the cost of post-secondary tuition continuing to rise, the United Food and Commercial Workers are committed to fighting for education justice and, at the same time, assisting members with tuition relief through a number of scholarship opportunities. Every year, more than 25 scholarships, bursaries, awards and grants – totalling more than $300,000 – are available to UFCW Canada members and families. 8 Manitoba Federation of Labour (MFL) Al Cerilli Scholarship http://mfl.ca/about/MFL_Al_Cerilli_Scholarship.html The Al Cerilli Manitoba Federation of Labour scholarship is a $500 scholarship presented by the MFL Young Members Committee to a student who is a member of an MFL affiliated union, to be used towards their continuing education or postsecondary program at a recognized institution. The scholarship is intended to encourage activism in the labour movement. In selecting each year’s recipient, the MFL Young Members Committee looks for the applicant who best demonstrates a significant record of activism in the labour movement and a commitment to continuing labour activism into the future. Manitoba Government Employees Union (MGEU) Scholarships and Bursaries https://www.mgeu.ca/for-members/scholarships-and-bursaries Various scholarships, criteria and application deadlines National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) Post-Secondary Scholarships Each year, the 390,000-member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers various scholarships of that reflect its pursuit of equal opportunity for workers. Entrants must be the children, grandchildren or foster children or grandchildren of members or retirees of the National Union and who are planning to enter the 1st year of a Canadian public, post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis. All scholarships awarded will be based on the best 750 — 1,000 word essay as listed on the website. The deadline for applications and essays is early July each year. There may be additional requirements for each scholarships. This award is available to all students, regardless of their field of study. Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children (MCEC) Scholarships The Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children offers four Scholarships ($750.00 each) annually: Two scholarships are available to support grade 12 or returning university students from Manitoba who are pursuing a career directly related to working with persons with exceptionalities. The individuals must be entering or in a current full-time education program in a Canadian institution. The scholarship money will be given directly to the recipient upon verification of enrollment. Two scholarships are available to students with exceptional needs who are transitioning from high school to post-school life, such as post-secondary education, job training or employment. The winning students must demonstrate a ‘Yes I Can’ attitude. 10 Schulich Leader Scholarships St. James Collegiate can nominate one student annually to represent our school as our 2022 Schulich Leader Nominee. 50 scholarships are awarded each year across Canada. 25 scholarships of $100,000 each for students pursuing an Engineering degree 20 scholarships of $80,000 each for students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology or Math. The Nominee must possess at least two of the following three criteria: 1. Academic excellence 2. Outstanding community, business or entrepreneurial leadership 3. Financial need Students are automatically nominated by the school scholarship committee for this award. If you feel you fit this criteria, please see your grade level counsellor, or Mr. Sculthorp prior to January 15, 2022. Nomination Deadline: January 26, 2022 Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to graduating secondary level students and those studying toward a first university degree or diploma in a Canadian post-secondary institution. The maximum award value is $28,000 dispersed over four years. The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award is one of Canada’s most established and prestigious awards. Terry Fox Scholars are “doers” with the ability to inspire and affect others and make a positive change. Award recipients must meet the following criteria: Involvement in voluntary humanitarian work. Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. Undergraduates studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution in Canada. Maintain a satisfactory academic standing and continued involvement in voluntary humanitarian and community work. The value of the award is $7,000 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $3,500 each. For students who do not pay tuition fees, the award (25) is $3,500 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $1,750 each. https://terryfoxawards.ca/apply/ Application Deadline: December 1 of each year Sunova Scholarship Program Sunova is looking to award a deserving student the $7500 Sunova scholarship. The recipient of this award will be a well-rounded individual who has focused both on educational achievements and community involvement. 11 CPA Manitoba Foundation High School Scholarships CPA Manitoba will award 13 scholarships of $1,000 to Manitoba students who are looking to pursue a post-secondary education in business or accounting. You must meet the following criteria: Must be attending one of Manitoba’s universities Overall average of 80% in grades 10-12 Have an interest in a career in accounting or business Be involved in school and community activities https://cpamb.ca/foundation/Bursaries-Scholarships/high-school-scholarships Application Deadline: May 2, 2022 *Date subject to change- has not yet been updated for 2022. The Mark and Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence Awarded to a Jewish student entering or enrolled in a post-graduate degree program with preference given to persons studying at a Manitoba educational institution. This award is based on academic achievement, financial need and community involvement. To be eligible for the Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship, an applicant: Must be Jewish Must be a full-time (60% course load) student entering or enrolled in a post-graduate degree program with preference given to persons studying at a Manitoba educational institution Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in awarding the scholarship: Academic achievement Volunteer work in the Jewish community Volunteer work in the local community Financial need https://www.jewishfoundation.org/scholarships/types-of-scholarships/mark-and-dorothy-danzker-scholarship Application Deadline: February 28 of each calendar year Student Award Search Aid B. 12 Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership The Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership recognizes students who have demonstrated consistent outstanding dedication to solving a community problem or making their community a better place to live. The Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership will award up to five (5) $1,000 scholarships to recognize the achievements of Winnipeg’s young leaders and support them to reach their educational and career goals. Community leadership can be demonstrated through activities that promote racial and social inclusion, drive reconciliation, encourage environmental stewardship, support and empower Winnipeg’s less fortunate, along with many other activities and initiatives that make Winnipeg a place we are all proud to call home. The Scholarships will be presented by Mayor Brian Bowman at City Hall. Big Sun Scholarship The Big Sun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits by offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. Twice per year, students are given the opportunity to win $1,000 to put towards their college / university expenses. 13 Manitoba Young Liberals Scholarship The Manitoba Young Liberal Scholarships are open to youth aged 16 to 25 who are entering, or are currently enrolled in a Manitoba post-secondary institution.
