St Br igid's Cat h olic Sch ool 17th December 2019 - 20 Dear Parents, The last few weeks at St Brigid?s have been very exciting with a range of activities and events for the students, staff and families. We have come together in prayer to give thanks for our year together and also farewelled our Grade 6 leavers. I was very proud of our choir singing at the local carols and we had a huge group of students, staff and families participate in the New Norfolk Christmas Pageant. Thank you to the staff and the parents that have supported these community events. I would like to farewell our Grade 6 Leavers and wish them all the best as they commence the next exciting time in their schooling. Thank you to the group who have been outstanding leaders in 2019. I would also like to thank the families who are departing our community. Many of these families have been with St Brigid?s for numerous years. Farewell to our Assistant Principal, Mrs Annie Nolan as she commences her new role at St Paul?s Bridgewater. Annie is a much loved teacher and leader who will be greatly missed by our whole school community. Congratulations Sr Carmel who celebrated 40 years as a Sister of Mercy last Sunday. We are very fortunate to have Sr Carmel in our community who is an outstanding role model for the students and staff. Well done to our students who received End of Year Awards at our Assembly this morning, especially our special Grade 6 Awards. Thank you to all members of our community for their support during a very successful 2019. I am very excited about 2020! I hope all members of our community have a safe, restful and enjoyable Christmas. School returns in 2020 on Thursday 6th February. Take care Stuart Kelly 89 Montagu Street Pr in cipal New Norfolk Phone: 03 6261 1778

Kin der gar t en 2019 Every year I say it ?What a wonderful year we have had in Kindergarten?, this year has been no exception. Learning through play can be very hard work, the children are experts at organising the play spaces to suit their needs and are very comfortable exploring their learning areas. This year we have visited the Molesworth Environment Centre, travelled to Hobart to see ?Something Fishy??at the Playhouse Theatre, the classroom has been turned into a hospital and national park with doctors and park rangers visiting us. We have enjoyed our visits to Corumbene and made many new friends there. Hopefully they might continue to visit in Prep next year. We had a great time at St Paul?s Catholic School, they have an amazing water play area and the children thoroughly enjoyed engaging in the space with their St Paul?s Kinder buddies. We visited shops in our local area, Mitre 10 at the beginning of the year to purchase seedlings, soil and mulch for the garden beds, and Woolworths to learn how supermarkets are set out in areas for different types of food. The fridge where the milk is stored was a hit with the children, they thought it was great to see customers reaching into the fridge to get their milk and see the children inside. We enjoyed making leaf angels, collecting pine cones and playing hide and seek in the trees at the Botanical gardens. Kinder and Prep enjoyed playing on the new equipment down at the Esplanade and participating at the St Brigid?s Athletics Carnival. Kindergarten children participated in the ELSA pilot program again this year, the children enjoyed listening to the ELSA story books and linking their learning with the ELSA apps. During third term we cooked once a week and sampled lots of different types of food, some we liked and some not so much! They particularly enjoyed cooking damper on our Bush Kinder day. I would like to thank all those parents who so willingly gave up their valuable time to join us in the classroom and on our excursions. The children?s faces light up when it is their parent or guardian who walks in the door to help. Once again, a big THANK YOU. I wish to thank Marsha Garwood and Megan Ackerly, without their tireless hard work our Kindergarten would not run so smoothly or look so warm and inviting. The children are happy and settled because of how thoughtful, caring and nurturing they are with all the children. Please stay safe over the holidays, read lots of books and keep exploring your world. I look forward to seeing all your beautiful smiling faces in 2020. Wishing you all a safe and love filled Christmas. Ms. Helen Byrne

High ligh t s of year 5 In Canberra we got to see lots of interesting things and places we hadn?t seen before. We loved Questacon and Flipout World. The Dinosaur museum was also a hit. New Parliament House was impressive but some of us still felt the Old Parliament House was the most impressive and informative. One of the best things about the trip was spending time with our friends. Another highlight was our Fishing Day. Despite not actually catching anything we got to be with our friends and also to learn lots about unsnagging hooks. AGFEST seems like a long time ago but it was still a highlight for many of us. Some liked that we got to see the Prime Minister, others enjoyed the dirt bikes. This year we got to be the leaders of Daily PE. This meant we had to learn a lot about how to run groups and to manage equipment. In sport this year we got to go over to PCYC with Stuie for Basketball. He is great to work with. We also went to Richmond the lolly shop ? well other places as well but the Lolly Shop was the best. We have been lucky to have had wonderful teachers this year.
