Objectives 2020-21 School Year • Back to Familiar: No Normal • In-Person, On-Campus Classes • Keep Educational Process Advancing • Community Heath • Local Focus Springwood Wildcats Reunited 20
LOCAL FOCUS Our approach to dealing with COVID-19 will be unique to our campus A primary focus for our health protocol addresses reducing the risk of Aerosols (small microscopic water molecules) which are currently believed to be a primary way the virus is transmi;ed. We are targe>ng mi>ga>ng Aerosols with the following local procedures. • Individually Air Condi5oned Rooms ✓ Each classroom on the SWS Campus has individual Air Condi5oning units ✓ Only outside classroom doors located in each classroom will be uses for entry and exit ✓ When individual Classrooms are using their AC units, the outside doors will remain open to create a draY which causes the Aerosols to drop and not circulate in the room • Central Air-condi5oned Rooms ✓ There will be no access to central hallways and common areas in the Elementary, FAC, Media Center and High School building because they are served by central air condi5oned units ‣ The only excep5ons will be to access - rest rooms - offices only accessible through an internal hallway, or - The few classes held in the High School commons due to physical distance requirements ✓ The Gymnasium will also remain off limits because of aerosols remaining in the air because of lack of air circula5on to reduce the aerosols hanging in the air. Springwood Wildcats Reunited 21
LOCAL FOCUS Our approach to dealing with COVID-19 will be unique to our campus and will focus on further reduc=on of aerosols by… • Masks worn at all 5mes indoors • 6’ Physical Distancing of desks in classrooms • Holding as many ac5vi5es as possible outdoors • Not holding any large gatherings indoors ✓ Suspending of all in-person, in-door mee5ngs including but not limited to Sessions, Pep Rallies, Faculty and Staff mee5ngs and other academic func5ons and/or celebra5ons ✓ Large group mee5ngs and gatherings will occur virtually whenever possible. • Clustering students in grades K4-7 in Cohorts of self-contained classrooms ✓ The Self-contained “Cohort” class will learn together, eat together, play together, have restroom breaks scheduled together ✓ Specials teachers (Music, Art, PE, Academic Support) come to each cohort classroom or are led virtually rather than having students move to a specials classroom. The self-contained Cohort classrooms enable the school to handle each cohort separately when it comes to QUARANTINE for exposures or ISOLATION because of individual contrac>ons of the virus or when necessary to suspended on-campus classes for virtual classrooms due to COVID-19. Springwood Wildcats Reunited 22

Extracurricular Activities Springwood School is a member of the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), is dual accredited by Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), networks extensively with the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) and competes in Interscholastically in the AISA. During the COVID-19 Era these Associations have been key to understanding the issues facing K-12 Education and how to address the Pandemic from an educational, health and operational perspective. The wisdom and guidance of these Associations have played a key role in providing input into the Springwood School Operational plan, AISA Academic Competitions Due to issues surrounding Covid-19, the AISA Activities Council determined that the most appropriate course of action for the 2020-21 school year was to suspend all academic programs for the academic calendar year that require in-person student participation. The State Art Show and Spring SGA Convention are unchanged at this time and they will be re-evaluated at a later date. Fine Arts There are concerns for vocal, instrumental and preforming arts related to COVID-19 transmission caused by projection of aerosols related to vocal and instrumental performances. Physical distancing, masks and outdoor practices and performances will be the norm as long as COVID protocols are necessary. Regional and state competitions will be held virtually or through video performances until further notice. Athletics “There is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 that exists in any public space where people are present. Specific COVID-19 protocols will be designated for athletes, coaches, managers and training staff to participate in practices and competitions. While visiting any campus, it needs to be understood that COVID-19 is a contagious disease and if infected you may exhibit no symptoms or a wide range from mild to severe symptoms and even death can occur. According to the Centers for Disease Control, senior citizens and persons with underlying conditions are particularly vulnerable. By visiting a school campus, participants whether players, coaches, support staff and/or spectators voluntarily assume all risks related to the possible exposure to COVID-19 and agree to adhere to all posted or verbal instructions for the campus you visit to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.” Our goal is to provide as safe and healthy environment as possible for our student-athletes to play the sport(s) they love. There will be some inconveniences that we are not accustom to and challenges along the way, but we must be proactive and flexible. Springwood Wildcats Reunited 25
