Dear residents, City Administration 2019 is an exciting year for the City Mayor Dennis M. Clough of Westlake. As we look forward to the Building Donald P. Grayem warmer weather, it is a great time to get out Community Services Lydia Gadd and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. We Engineering Robert P. Kelly are excited about the opening of the new Finance Prashant Shah Westlake Aquatic Center located at Clague Fire Jim Hughes Park. We are slated to open this summer. Law Michael P. In the spring, we will be breaking Purchasing Larry Surber ground on the new Community Services building which will be Recreation Bob DeMinico located on the Recreation Center property. The event is co-sponsored by the City of Westlake and UH St. John Medical Center. Attendees can participate in a number of screenings and a variety of activities on how to improve both the health and safety of your family. Vendors interested in participating should contact Mary Kiczek, RN, at 440-827-5440. Our community loves our children and wants to protect them. Help our local non-profit, ReInventing The Cycle, show this by participating in the Pin- wheels for Prevention event on April 13, 2019 from 1:30 -3:00 on the Rec Center hill. April is national Child Sexual Abuse Prevention month and to raise awareness we need families to come, make a pin- wheels, and plant them in the hill. All materials will be provided. It is a fun way for us to come together and promote keeping our children safe. Double your fun with the Egg Hunt and our Pinwheels for Pre- vention on April 13. Hope to see you then. Fishing Derby (ages up to 12) Saturday, May 18th Enjoy a morning of fishing in the Westlake Recreation Center’s Lake. The lake is stocked with plenty of bass, channel catfish, crappie, trout and blue gill. Please bring your own equipment. Parent/guardian is required, however there is no cost for the parent. Safety Town Registration will ONLY be accepted ONLINE. Westlake residents may register starting April 15th. Open registration for all will take place beginning Monday April 29th. You must have an account with us to register. Note: A completed “Medical, Photography & Transportation Consent Form” is due by the first day of your child’s program. Westlake Safety Town is offered to children entering Kindergarten (ages 4.5–6 yrs old) in the fall of 2019. The program offers basic safety instructions on several topics including: pedestrian, bicycle, seatbelts, 911, gun, strangers, fire, school bus, swim, internet, and animal safety. Safety Town is held each day, rain or shine, and is located in front of the Westlake Police Department (27300 Hilliard Blvd). On the first day of class, parents are required to stay for the first 30 minutes to review our expectations and schedule. Children should wear weather/activity appropriate clothing and shoes. (For safety: NO FLIP FLOPS should be worn at Safety Town!) All sessions are now one week class. Meet adoptable dogs from the local rescues, enjoy an ice cream treat, play, run and enjoy other activities, all while entering pet friendly raffles! Kids will enjoy crafts, games, fitness programs , drawing class, weekly field trip and swimming. All fees are included. Children will need to bring a towel, swimsuit and lunch daily.
