FIS SKI FLYING The FIS Ski Flying World Championships is a ski flying event organised by the International Ski Federation and held every two years. It is a truly spectacular discipline appealing to new audiences with drama and excitement. There are just five ski flying hills in the world, in Harrachov (CZE), Vikersund (NOR), Planica (SLO), Kulm (AUT) and Oberstdorf (GER). These hills are much larger than ski jumping hills, with the K-point set between 185 metres and 200 metres. Unlike ordinary ski jumping, the Ski Flying World Champion is determined after four jumps. 40 jumpers qualify for the competition and jump the first round, 10 are eliminated, and the 30 remaining jumpers compete in the last three rounds. The athlete with most points combined after four jumps is declared the World Champion. Finland, Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Poland and Japan are the ski flying top nations. France, Russia, Italy or US will challenge the “reigning stars” in Planica 2020. The FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2020 will take place in Planica (Slovenia) and Eurovision Sport will distribute these rights until 2024. 48

IBU BIATHLON The Winter Olympic sport of Biathlon combines the endurance of free-technique cross-country skiing with precision small-ball rifle marksmanship. The combination of two very different disciplines in the same competition – skiing and shooting – presents the athletes with an extremely demanding challenge. With it being a popular spectator sport, biathlon draws a huge audience not only at the competitions but also on screen. Intense spectator interest in biathlon is not surprising as it offers a wide spectrum of concurrent dynamic activities in the course of a single event. For example, in the pursuit, a spectator can view starts, shooting, penalty loop and finishes while always aware of who is in the lead. On the competition trails or in the stadium it is just as exhilarating for the spectators, who can follow the exciting duels between the athletes at close range. Needless to say, Eurovision Sport is proud to have recently renewed its contract with the IBU until the year of 2022. 50
