We are really proud of the support from our strategic partners to assist us in this process. Manx Youth Games EcoKit In November 2021, the Manx Youth Games, through the sponsorship and support of Sporting Club Isle of Man, and its kit supplier Hope & Glory, provided an opportunity for those young people participating in this year’s Manx Youth Games to choose their EcoKit shirt design that will be worn for the next three years. Safeguarding & Protecting Children Minimum Standards for the 2022 Sporting Club Manx Youth Games All Sporting Club Manx Youth Games Sports must meet the following criteria. If sports can not meet the eight points detailed below, it could effect their subsequent participation in the games. • All coaches and volunteers who facilitate Sporting Club Manx Youth Games training sessions must complete a “Coach Details” Form and this must be submitted to the Sports Development Unit no later than 1st December 2021. • In order to comply with data protection, co-ordinators and coaches must NOT send group emails to children or parents. Should coaches or co-ordinators wish to communicate with participants electronically, then they should use the “Blind copy” function/setting when sending emails. • Sports must have a minimum of two qualified coaches at each training session. In addition, where numbers are excessive, volunteers and assistants would be required. Coaches and volunteers who help at training sessions must have a satisfactory DBS check (from MSR), or provide a valid DBS Certificate from their sport (period of 3 years). • Where possible, there should be both male and female coaches/volunteers in attendance (or female only for “girls only sports”). • All coaches and volunteers (i.e. a parent who is assisting with registration) who will come into contact with children during the Sporting Club Manx Youth Games and training sessions must have attended a Sports Coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop. This workshop is valid for 3 years. Free workshops will be on offer in January 2022. • A qualified first aider must be present at all Sporting Club Manx Youth Games training sessions. Free training will be on offer in January 2022. • Where feasible and realistic sports must make every effort to be inclusive and subsequently offer children with disabilities the opportunity to take part in Sporting Club Manx Youth Games training sessions as well as the event itself. • As part of each sport’s junior development plan children who have attended Sporting Club Manx Youth Games training sessions should have the opportunity to continue in the respective sports through leagues and junior competitions following the Sporting Club Manx Youth Games. Smashed it Badminton Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Badminton NSC Main Hall 1100 - 1500 Roberta Cannell Aalish Cassidy Aalish started playing Badminton in the Manx Youth games in 2017 and 2018. When she became too old to play she volunteered to assist at the East Badminton sessions at the NSC on a Friday night and was put in charge of the Primary Girls for Douglas North/ Douglas South and The South. She has carried out this duty for the last 4 years. Aalish used this opportunity to use Badminton as her Volunteering and Physical for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and has achieved her Gold Award. Aalish is hoping to go to Cumbria University in Sept to start training to be a Primary School Teacher, another legacy for the Manx Youth Games. Dunk it Basketball Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony SNHS Lower School Basketball Primary-Sports Hall 1 1100 - 1500 Rebbcca Dunne Holly Hennessy Secondary-Sports Hall 2 Holly has been involved in sport from an early age and always enjoyed being active. She began netball at primary school, and has continued to play, now playing for Manx Gems netball club and also is a member of the Isle of Man under 21 squad. It wasn’t until Holly reached secondary school that she became aware of basketball on the Island, and she very quickly began playing with her friends for fun, then to Saturday morning sessions and of course the Manx Youth Games. Fast forward a couple of years, Holly is now a member of the Isle of Man Ladies Basketball team, and attended her first Island Games in Gibraltar in 2019. Whilst Holly is talented in both these sports, she demonstrates that one doesn’t hinder the other and that you can perform highly, and develop your skills, in both. Primary - Teams will be split into 2 groups – Group A and Group B. Once group games completed, this will then go off into playoff games. - Group games will be half court and 5 minutes long; in the result of a turnover ball, the team must take outside the 3 point line before they can begin their offence. - Playoff games will be half court and 8 minutes long. Secondary - Teams will be split into 2 groups – Year 7/8 and Year 9/10. Once group games completed, this will then go off into playoff games. - All games will be full court and 6 minutes one way. - Playoff games will be 5 minutes each way. These may be subject to change pending on children engagement. Fixtures will be available on the day, and also we will (if possible), email out to parents more specifics of fixtures when we let them know team names prior to the event. All children must wear suitable indoor footwear. Run it Cricket Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Ryder and Cricket Cronkbourne Cricket Club 1100 - 1430 Sally Green Rocco Spencer Ryder and Rocco are brothers who really love the game of cricket! They have both participated in Cronkbourne Cricket Club’s Manx Youth Games sessions with Ryder first in 2016 and then Rocco taking over in 2019. From the Manx Youth Games Ryder progressed into Cronkbourne’s junior age groups where he currently plays for their U15 side and played in the first team in 2021 regularly challenging himself against players significantly older than he is. Rocco is currently U11 but also played U13 league cricket in 2021. In 2017 Ryder was selected to be part of the Isle of Man U10 squad and has since been part of the U11, U13 and U15 squads as well as being selected on to the Emerging Players Programme in 2020. Rocco was selected to be part of the Isle of Man U13 squad in 2021 aged ten. Ryder and Rocco are very committed and dedicated cricketers and their evident love for the game can be attributed back to their participation in the Manx Youth Games and club cricket at Cronkbourne Cricket Club. Competition Format On the day teams will be organised via regions into teams of 8. Matches take approximately 45 minutes and played against some of the other regions (subject to numbers on the day). Fixtures will commence at roughly 11, 12 and 13:15 with a lunch break scheduled for 12:45 to 13:15. There will be refreshments provided at Cronkbourne CC, but people are welcome to bring their own lunch. The Manx Youth Games is all about having fun and making new friends, therefore results are not recorded. Crown Green Bowls Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Crown Green Nobles Park 1100 - 1430 Sonya Mercer Alex Hampson Bowls Alex started playing bowls at age 10 in 2019 through MYG’s. In the same year he won the Young Manx Masters. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength. In 2020 he reached quarter finals of the Junior Manx Masters, but this time he was in the upper age bracket and playing against 11- to 18-year-olds. He was also semi-finalist in the Bill Oliver Memorial Cup. In 2021 he reached quarter finals of the Jim Senior any combination doubles competition; semi-finalist Rheuben Thomas Memorial Trophy; quarter finalist in the Ken Parker Cup and started to play in the Outdoor Winter League. He also plays for the Men’s Open League matches. Competition Format It’s a Knockout style Crown Green Bowls competition where all regions compete in a fun format over a number of events from round robin competition, obstacle course, target bowls, bowls ‘golf’ to name just a few. The best individual score from each event will go towards their regions overall combined score which will decide which region is crowned as MYG bowls champions 2022. Play it Girls Football Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Girls Football The Bowl 1100 - 1530 Simon Elson Kira Griffiths Kira started playing football with Douglas Royal and was has been part of the Centre of Excellence since the start of the programme at U10s Kira joined Corinthians women last season and played in the floodlit cup final. Kira is now in the Isle of Man senior women’s team and is only 16 years old, great achievement and would like to go to the Island Games, and she helps coaches the male & female Centre of Excellence for goalkeepers. Competition Format Duration of Matches Matches will be 10 mins one way with no interval. Time will be added on for any excessive delays at the referees’ discretion. Rules The matches will be played to Mini-Soccer rules. These are the same as normal F.A. rules (this includes pass-backs to the goalkeeper) except that there is no offside and the defending team must be 3 meters away when a free kick is taken. The goalkeeper is allowed to move along the line as a penalty is taken. A shot cannot be taken direct from a kick-off. The retreat rule from a goal kick will be in effect. Code of Conduct All those involved in the competition must observe and obey the Manx Youth Games code of conduct. Footwear All players must wear suitable footwear and shin pads. Results The Manx Youth Games is all about having Fun & Making New Friends therefore results are not recorded. Millie began her handball coaching journey during her studies at UCM where she is a Sports Student. She completed her Level 1 Coaching and Refereeing Qualifications in a partnership programme between UCM Sport and the IoM Olympic Handball Association and was voted IoM Young Handball Coach of the year in 2021. She is now in her 2nd year coaching the Manx Youth Games East Handball Squad. Competition Format Round Robin Event where all the children will be guaranteed lots of playing time and fun. Strike it Hockey Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Hockey NSC 1100 - 1500 Dee Gimbert Dominic Hubble Starter at Harlequins doing MYG very promising hockey player, now playing at Vikings was selected for Under 18 and recently progressed to the mens Island Squad, he has this year been selected to train in UK with England Hockey Set up. Competition Format Boys and Girls will play matches as a Round Robin, with lunch break a round 12.30 for half an hour if time allows, with a play off and then a presentation at 3 o’clock. He goes to SEN Multi sports as he wants to be big and strong like the Ravens (FC Isle of Man) especially captain Sean Doyle. Netball Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Poppy Irving & Netball Bemahague 1100 - 1500 Hollie McGowan Ariana Kerrus We have two fantastic individuals representing Isle of Man Netball as flag bearers, Poppy and Ariana. Ariana has been playing netball at Ramsey Club from 2017 and before that attended MYG Netball sessions. At 16 years old, Ariana is member of the Isle of Man Netall U17 squad and also plays in the senior league with Ramsey. Ariana is beginner umpire, working towards her C award and also helps coach at junior and MYG sessions! Ariana is a fantastic club and team member and a coaches dream! Poppy has grown up surrounded by netball. Her grandmother, Judi Clark-Wilson, founded the Manx Netball Association (now Isle of Man netball) and her mother, Fiona Kemp, represented the Isle of Man at netball over a 25 year period. Poppy currently plays club netball for Simcocks Netball club and has been a member of the Isle of Man netball squad for three years, currently playing in the U17s. Poppy is an experienced beginner umpire and also coaches for her club’s under 11’s. Both Ariana and Poppy show such passion for netball in all aspects and are great role models for the sport. They have a bright future ahead! On the day our teams will all meet at the designated meeting point listed in the information pack (NSC outdoor overflow car park) for 9.15am sharp where you will be greeted by your coaches in anticipation of the opening ceremony. Competition Format On the day teams will be organised via regions and into a rotating sevens round robin format to allow everyone to play against each other. All region coaches will be in charge of overseeing the children on the day. We would ask all children to bring along a packed lunch for the day and appropriate clothing for outside play. Should there be any severe weather disruptions we do have a back-up plan for the day and the details are posted above in the programme. Competition Format Players will split into equal groups and play a round robin in the morning. There will be a break for lunch of 45mins. In the afternoon players will be re-graded and split into equal groups and again play a round robin. Each player will have at least 4 matches in the morning and a further 4 in the afternoon. Dive in to it Swimming Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Swimming NSC 1145 - 1600 Lee Holland Laura Kinley Laura Kinley is a 25 year old Swimmer preparing to compete at her third Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022. Laura started her sporting career at the youth games competing in athletics, then took further interest in cycling and badminton. Since choosing swimming, Laura has broken more than 100 National Records and won British Medals as well as experiencing a Commonwealth Final in the womens 4x100m medley relay in 2018 Gold Coast Games. Competition Format Races may be added in subject to time on the day. Relays are subject to time. Bring it Table Tennis Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Table Tennis NSC Secondary Hall 1100 - 1600 Malcolm Lewis Wilma Dalugdugan Wilma is one of our excellent junior players and has already represented the island in the 6 Nations Tournaments where we play the likes of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Guernsey and Jersey. She is a regular member of the island training squad and has won 70% of her league matches showing great form. She is also a volunteer for the Manx Youth Games in the Ramsey sessions and has just qualified as a Level 1 Coach. Competition Format The competition will take one of two formats depending on numbers on the day: Option 1 - Regions will play against each other throughout the day with one region resting on each rotation. Approximate times for the start of each round are 11.00am, 11.40am, 12.35pm, 13,30pm and 14.25pm. If this format is played then times will be published in the hall on the day. Option 2 – we will split players into groups of 5 or 6 to play matches against other players in a round robin format. We will repeat this format for a second round ensuring players compete against others of the same ability Either format would see the players kept busy during the day with a lot of table tennis for them. If time permits, we will use our junior players to demonstrate some of the squad drills we use on training nights as well as a match involving two of them. Try it Tag Rugby Sports Leader Event Venue Times Co-ordinator Opening Ceremony Vagabonds Rugby Club Tag Rugby 1100 - 1500 Gareth Hinge Daisee Sewell (Ballafletcher) Daisee has always been involved in sport, ranging from swimming to horse riding and even competing for the Western team in hockey at the Manx Youth Games. Recently her main sporting focus has been rugby. For the past three and half years she Daisee involved in the Vagabonds Ladies rugby team and this season has been the first year she has been old enough to start and play competitively in matches. Sport on the island, especially rugby, is a great scene to participate in, offering many opportunities to compete, be part of a community and have some fun. Competition Format On the day teams will be organised via regions and into a rotating round robin format to allow everyone to play against each other. Competition Format The day will be a round robin event with all Regions competing against each other, number of participants is not known as yet. All will attend the opening and then take a bus to Albany for the competition.
