CPW BROCHURE / 2020 CPW has so much to be thankful for that we want to celebrate all we are and all we might be thanks to God’s generosity. Nowhere is this more clearly exhibited than in the wonders of Creation which will be displayed for us in the natural surroundings of the house and grounds of the St Cassian’s Centre at Kintbury. As part of our celebrations we will remember our responsibilities to the Earth (referred to as ‘our common home’ by Pope Francis) and to the generations for whom we hold it in trust. Are we respectful and appreciative of our beautiful home? Could we do more to protect it? What are the challenges that lie ahead? The day will provide food for thought as well as ‘soul food’ for people of all ages and abilities. Our keynote speaker will encourage us to see the world in a new light - God’s light - which we hope will shine through all our praying, singing, dancing, talking and just being together. If you’re ever been to a CPW (even once!), or you come every year, or you’ve thought you might come but haven’t got round to it, or you’ve just heard about us and you’d like to know more - this day is for you. Come and join us and help us celebrate 75 years of faith seeking understanding. 11
Summer Week: A People’s Theology for the 21st Century 10 - 15 Aug 2020 | Fully Catered | 18+ Boars Hill Carmelite Priory, Oxford With the help of our Keynote speaker, Diarmuid O’Murchu, we will be considering the human story, our place in the whole of Creation and the Christ event within it. His most recent books include Beyond Original Sin, Incarnation: A New Evolutionary Threshold, Inclusivity: A Gospel Mandate and Christianity’s Dangerous Memory: A Rediscovery of the Revolutionary Jesus. Diarmuid’s concerns regarding climate change have been an important influence on his writing, as have the work of Teilhard de Chardin and contemporary theologians. Chair - Sue Williamson We hope that, in dialogue with Diarmuid, as well as from our own reflections and Chaplain - Diarmuid O’Murchu liturgies, the implications for the implementation of an adult faith in connection to today’s most pressing issues, will emerge. Organiser - Frank and Teresa Monteiro Boars Hill - Boars Hill is a Carmelite Priory just outside Oxford, within easy reach of the A34 and M40. CPW BROCHURE / 2020 AUG Summer All-Age Week: 8 ‘Wake up! Revive what remains, for it is fading fast’ Rev 3:2 Prophetic Voices in the Call to Reform 9-15 Aug 2020 | Catered* | All Age (Parallel Children’s Programme) St Cassian’s Centre, Kintbury The Church, says Pope Francis, “needs prophets.... it needs all of us to be prophets, not critics who don’t approve of anything, but one who opens wide the doors of hope”. Prophetic voices challenge us to ‘wake up’, to trust and keep faith, to be courageous in the proclamation of God’s word. But the many complex issues of our time – social, economic, cultural, political and personal - offer no easy answers or quick solutions. How is it possible for the Church to be the rock of Truth, and respond with an open and generous heart to the many challenges of the modern world? Whose are the prophetic voices who will truly wake us up and help the Church ‘revive what remains’? Chair - Helen Floyd During this all-age week we will listen to a range of prophetic voices: of women and Chaplain - Tim Redmond men in politics, media and education; of young people; and of parishioners. Organisers - Deirdre Mahon and Mary Ring Through thought-provoking presentations, supportive discussions, quiet reflection, and creative and inclusive liturgies, we can all play our part as prophets of hope; listening Chief Helper - Nathan Barry to the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to the Church today. We aim to build bridges not walls. We celebrate diversity. We recognise that we are all the same underneath and find common ground and ways to work together. We will spend four days at the beautiful Aylesford Priory in Kent, challenging ourselves to listen properly and understand the differences between ourselves, other faiths and Chair - Louise Cook other Christian traditions.
