AUGUST 2022 | PAGE 3 All Smiles at Walk for Inclusion 2022 Walk for Inclusion brings community together to celebrate the acceptance, equality, and inclusion that makes Special Olympics Utah so unique, and this year not only did we come together at in Salt Lake City, but the community of Vernal hosted their very own Walk for Inclusion as well! Over 300 people between Salt Lake City and Vernal Walked for Inclusion on Thursday, August 4th raising funds and spreading joy. Thanks to Chick- Fil-A Sugar House and Broadway Media, our SLC walkers enjoyed chicken sandwiches while jamming out to Mix 105.1! It was fun for all as we played yard games like corn hole and basketball free throws while walking around and visiting with Community Partners; Encircle, Amazon, Molina Healthcare, SLC Adaptive Recreation, Job’s Daughters and ABS Kids! The biggest attraction of the night was Tate & Hanna’s Food Truck! Tate and Hanna are athletes on Wasatch High School’s Unified Basketball Team and run their own food truck! Tate & Hanna serve home-made ice cream (that is the creamiest ice cream you’ll ever taste) and custom-made soda’s that never disappoint. See more about Tate & Hanna on FOX 13 here! Thank you so much to our SLC sponsors: IML Security, Amazon SLC 1, Molina Healthcare, Flux Power Inc., Veterans Trading Company, and ABS Kids for supporting this event and inclusion. It’s because of sponsors and donors alike that we can provide our athletes with year-round sports training in 13 sports! Between both locations, Walk for Inclusion 2022 raised just about $34,000! Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and shared in the joy of Walk for Inclusion 2022 in Salt Lake City and Vernal!
AUGUST 2022 | PAGE 4 Cache County Wins The Championship Belt at Truck Pull 2022 Strength was tested as six teams competed for the Championship Belt by pulling the Logan City Fire Truck 10 yards! Only one team walked away the winner and this year it was the Cache County Sheriff’s Team, but the overall winner was the SOUT North Area who was the beneficiary of over $1,200. Congratulations to all those who came out and tested their strength; it was a close competition with the winning team only ahead by seconds. VOLUNTEER | Austin Bonzo Meet Austin Bonzo! Austin is the HOD and Coach for the Chrysalis Cowboys in Cedar City. He has worked for Chrysalis Utah for eight years and has been involved with Special Olympics Utah for over six years. Austin attended Canyon View High School in Cedar City and graduated from Southern Utah University and worked for Chrysalis in the Salt Lake area for a couple of years. He had the opportunity to return to his hometown of Cedar City, and while working for Chrysalis he took on additional duties to make Special Olympics a part of the program. Austin has coached softball, track & field, bocce, soccer, and more sports during the last several years. Coworkers agree that he cares so much for the individuals and them being able to have fun, that he puts in long hours with the individuals, staffing, and coaching to be sure it is a fun experience for everyone. When training staff or coaches to help with Special Olympics, Austin will use old pictures or videos of the individuals to help others see how much it means to the individuals and help them to want to be a part of those experiences. As Austin moves on to other job opportunities with Chrysalis on the Wasatch Front, he will be missed by the athletes, staff, and community in Cedar City. Good luck Austin and thanks for your dedication to your athletes and Special Olympics Utah.
