THE VISION & MISSION Runway to Hope’s mission is to provide direct support and aid to children and their families impacted by pediatric cancer in the Greater Central Florida area. Mark and Josie NeJame founded Runway to Hope in 2010. They envisioned a charity that would keep funding focused to local families as well as devoting resources to innovative programs and initiatives to the Central Florida pediatric cancer community through partnerships with Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Florida Hospital for Children, and Nemours Children’s Hospital. Through the Runway to Hope Family Assistance Program, direct aid is provided to families who are in desperate need of financial support. Runway to Hope covers expenses such as gas and groceries, water, electricity, mortgage and rent, car payments, and sadly, at times, funeral and end-of-life expenses. Our beloved event has been named “Best Charity Event” a combined total of thirteen times in its seven year existence by the Orlando Business Journal, Orlando Magazine, and Orlando Style. Runway to Hope has received recognition from the Association Fundraising Professionals on National Philanthropy Day in the categories of Excellence in Fundraising by a Non-Profit Organization (2014), “Outstanding Philanthropists” honoring Mark and Josie NeJame (2014), and the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation Creating Change Honoree (2017).
RUNWAY TO HOPE’S SPRING FASHION SOIRÉE The Runway to Hope Spring Fashion Soiree is the organization’s signature fundraising event of the year! The highlight of the evening is an inspiring and heartwarming fashion show featuring more than 150 incredible and brave children, all of whom are currently battling or have overcome their pediatric cancer. Modeling much more than clothing, these inspiring children walk the runway hand-in-hand with one of our national and local celebrity escorts. The models who take the stage are all between the ages of 2 to 18. It is an incredible experience to watch all of these kids show off their strength and unwavering spirits as they strut and smile down the runway! The Runway to Hope Spring Fashion Soiree is a celebration of these children and their incomparable courage. The annual Spring Fashion Soiree is also a true testament to the support and passion the Central Florida community has shown towards this inspiring cause. Since Runway to Hope’s inception in 2010, the Soiree has soared in attendance as well as the amount of dollars raised. In May 2017, the event hosted approximately 2,300 guests and an outstanding amount of $1.2 million was pledged during this single, spectacular evening! Approximately $6.5 million has been raised by Runway to Hope over the course of its eight year existence. As one of the most highly anticipated evenings of the year, the Runway to Hope Spring Fashion Soiree takes place at the luxurious Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, one of our most valued corporate sponsors. WHEN & WHERE: May 19, 2018 Rosen Shingle Creek 9939 Universal Boulevard Orlando, FL 32819
OUR HOSPITAL PROMISE The funds raised by Runway to Hope’s Spring Fashion Soiree benefit the pediatric oncology programs at our three local children’s hospitals as well as the Runway to Hope’s Family Assistance Program. ARNOLD PALMER HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN: Runway to Hope’s contribution supported Central Florida’s first ever comprehensive Pediatric Neuro- Oncology Program, which is comprised of a team that provides the full range of medical and emotional support specific to pediatric brain tumor patients during and af ter their treatment. Runway to Hope has completed their $1 million pledge to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and will be continuing their support by pledging an additional $500,000. Runway to Hope’s most recent pledge began in 2017 and funds the hospital’s Pediatric Palliative Care Program, which provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support to children and their families who are suffering from Pediatric Cancer. FLORIDA HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN: Runway to Hope’s initial $1 million pledge has funded the Pediatric Palliative Care Program at Florida Hospital for Children. This program provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support to children and their families who are suffering from a Pediatric Cancer diagnosis. In 2017, Runway to Hope completed their $1 million pledge and has started a new promise to the hospital of $500,000. This new pledge will fund a portion of the oncology floor renovation. The new floor will grow to include 12 large patient rooms, a family lounge, and a play room for patients. This renovation of the hospital wing will provide much needed comfort and top of line equipment to serve the families living and battling pediatric cancer in this unit. NEMOURS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL: Runway to Hope funds two areas at Nemours Children’s Hospital. The first is its Community Children’s Oncology Program, which is a database that improves access to leading-edge therapies, research, and resources for pediatric cancer patients throughout Northern and Central Florida. Additionally, Runway to Hope funds the Pediatric Interventional Radiology Program, which serves cancer patients directly by utilizing rare and advanced imaging technologies for localized treatment. In 2019, Runway to Hope will continue our pledge with Nemours by purchasing new equipment and training for Microwave Ablation. This new technology is for treatments against soft tissue tumors. This will reduce the side effects on the children and will offer the opportunity to have potentially life-saving care. Runway to Hope will also fund a Survivorship Program, which will provide access to information on how certain patients are treated and how cancers react to physicians between all three Central Florida children’s hospitals. By sharing this information and collaborating, doctors can better treat all of the children impacted by pediatric cancer.
FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM In addition to the combined $4.3 million pledge to our children’s hospitals, Runway to Hope provides desperately needed direct financial assistance to children and their families affected by childhood cancer. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family is put to the test and faces incomprehensible, life- altering situations. Families of childhood cancer patients often experience a dramatic decrease in income when caring for their children. Often times one parent has to quit work to become a full time caregiver for their child. Their entire schedule is often quickly devoted to being bedside in a hospital setting or dedicating all of their time and resources to their child’s care. Added to this, is the additional stress and inability to afford the bills and expenses related to medical treatment which can be very overwhelming. The contributions made to Runway to Hope assist with many necessities including: transportation to and from the child’s life-saving treatments, mortgage and rent payments, car payments and repairs, as well as frequent requests to maintain the essentials in a home such as electricity and water. Tragically, end of life and funeral costs are sometimes a reality for these families who have been both emotionally and financially devastated. The needs are endless and solely funded by philanthropy. Childhood cancer is not a battle these families can or should fight alone.

I met Rudy at Runway to Hope one night – but she made an impact that still moves me today. As much as anything, Rudy taught me about grace. She knew she didn’t have long, but she was determined to let her light shine as long as possible. Special kids like that deserve all the help - and love - we can give them. — Scott Maxwell, Orlando Seintinel Columnist “I was so moved to learn the story of Runway to Hope and their fight against pediatric cancer.
