Spanish 4160: Major Works of Spanish Lit 1700-Present Fall 2020 HYBRID REMOTE/ONLINE COURSE TTH 9:35 - 10:50 Professor: Juan Herrero-Senés Email: herreros@colorado.edu Office hours: TU 10:50-11:50 and by appointment. El curso: Este curso presenta una panorámica de la literatura española producida desde el siglo XVIII hasta el presente, concentrándose específicamente en algunas obras capitales y representativas de las distintas épocas de la historia de la literatura española. El curso presupone una lectura profunda y atenta de las obras, un análisis de ellas, así como la asistencia y participación en las clases vía zoom y online, además de completar todos los assignments. Todo el trabajo del curso se realiza en español. Objetivos del curso: -Conocer y describir la evolución de la literatura española entre los ss. XVIII y XXI. -Conocer y describir varias obras literarias centrales de ese periodo. -Analizar e interpretar el contenido, la forma y la ideología de estas obras. -Comparar obras de distintas épocas. -Aplicar el análisis literario a otras obras literarias. -Discutir y evaluar el significado y el valor de las obras literarias. Grading Criteria: Your grade is composed as follows:

To this end, you should take notes and think critically about the texts before coming to class and completing the assignments. You will find that if you bring questions, opinions, and concerns to the zoom discussion, we all benefit from them. The class format is driven by dialogue, with no lectures. Attendance is required in the zoom sessions. Students will be allowed two unexcused absences. All other unexcused absences will lower the final grade by 1 point each. More than 6 unexcused absences will mean an “F” in this course. Please don't hesitate to talk to me about your specific situation this semester if you think it may impact your attendance/performance in this class. Exams o papers: There are NO exams or papers.

La reacción consiste en un video o audio individual de 2 minutos (en español) dando tu opinión sobre el tema controversial propuesto en la presentación. Consiste en escribir un ensayo de unas 500 palabras respondiendo a un prompt. El prompt es sobre la novela en su conjunto. Comentarios are due AFTER the last session on a work. If you have two final exams scheduled to meet at the same time, you are entitled to arrange an alternative exam time for the later course offered that day or week. (11) Policy on Enrollment in Undergraduate Language Courses - Undergraduate introductory 1000 and 2000-level language courses are designed for non-native speakers. Fluent speakers of that language are not allowed to enroll in these courses and can be dropped from these courses by the department or the course instructor. Fluent speakers should consult the department website and the catalog as well as the course instructor or department language coordinator about their eligibility to enroll in upper-division 3000 and 4000-level language courses. Departments can exclude fluent speakers from upper-division language courses based on course content and instructional resources. Speakers who have not formally studied the language but have spoken the language in their home should consult with the Associate Chair of the language department or the department language coordinator about appropriate placement before enrolling in a language course.
