Bike racks are numbered and triathletes must put their bicycles and gear on their designated rack. You must use your assigned rack. Please be courteous of the space and belongings of other racers before, during and after the race. Please note: that only athletes are allowed in the transition area. No exceptions. You must show your race number in order to remove your bike after the race is over. RELAY TEAMS Each relay team will be given one timing chip to be worn by the first runner at the start of the race. After completing the first run, the runner will transfer the team’s timing chip to the biker waiting at the team’s designated bike rack location in the transition area. After completing the bike, the biker will transfer the team’s timing chip to the second runner at the team’s designated bike rack location in the transition area. SPECTATORS For athlete safety, we request that spectators please enjoy watching the athletes from within Lake Arrowhead Park during the race. The main entrance to the lake will be closed when the race starts for athletes entering and exiting the park for both the bike and run portions of the race. You’ll be able to watch the first leg runner either lakeside or up on one of the embankments overlooking the lake, as they make their way around the lake. You will be able to watch the athletes run through transition to head out on the bike course. The athletes will return to the transition area after the bike to head out again on the run before finally finishing back in the park. Please note: If you must leave before the last finisher, you must exit out the Lake Arrowhead Park secondary entrance by making a left turn on Lake Arrowhead Rd to avoid driving on the course for athlete safety. We recommend that you pre-ride or pre-drive the course prior to race day. Knowing the course is YOUR responsibility. THE RUN - 3RD LEG Please see the course map for your race. If you are doing the International, you will be doing a 2x out and back run course. If you are doing the Sprint, you will be doing a single out and back course. Runners should run on the left side of the road at all times. The run course will have limited vehicle traffic. Volunteers will be on the course to direct runners. Please stay alert and remain aware of your surroundings! Aid stations will be located at approximately each mile mark. Aid stations will be supplied with water and Hammer Nutrition HEED. To view your photos online, please individually completing both the International and Sprint go to our Photos page on the Luray Triathlon website. Duathlons receive a special award. Athletes racing in a relay are not eligible for the “Hawksbill Double”. Please note: There will be a charge to have your awards mailed. USA TRIATHLON RULES & SANCTIONING The Luray Triathlon is a USA Triathlon (USAT) MORE INFORMATION sanctioned event and, as such, follows USAT rules. For more information about USAT and USAT rules, please contact USA Triathlon by visiting www.usatriathlon.org or COMMONLY VIOLATED BIKE RULES calling 719-597-9090. • No drafting or blocking. • No headphones, iPods, radios. USAT officials will be on the course and penalties will be assessed. • Hard shell helmets must be worn and must be fastened before mounting your bike outside the transition area. Failure to fasten your helmet results in an automatic disqualification. • Stay to the right to allow faster cyclists to pass on the left and obey the yellow line rule. Crossing the yellow line is an automatic disqualification. COMMONLY VIOLATED RUN RULES • No headphones, earphones or any radio-type devices will be allowed. • You must have your run # on your front as you approach the finish line. USA TRIATHLON AGING UP POLICY Participants will compete in whichever age group they would be in as of Dec. 31st, 2019. In other words, your age group for the 2018 season will be determined by your age on December 31st, 2019. USA TRIATHLON SANCTIONING USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sport of triathlon. Being an annual member or a one-day member provides event organizers and participants with the necessary liability insurance coverage for athletes, volunteers, sponsors and race staff.
