  HOUSE SYSTEM:
  CONSTELLATIONS
  WINS FINAL VOTE!
Students, parents and staff have voted on how the new house system will look

Voting for the theme of INDUS HERCULES
our new house system
opened at the beginning of
this term and we can now
reveal that the winning
theme, as voted for by
students, parents and
staff, is Constellations.
Constellations won with an overwhelming
58% of the vote, beating inspirational
Yorkshire figures and trees. This means that
the names of our six houses will be: Indus,
Hercules, Pegasus, Vela, Draco and Orion.
Last summer, we devised a brief
questionnaire so students and parents could
                                               PEGASUS VELA
put forward their ideas for the theme of our
new house system. Each house needs to
have its own distinctive character and we
asked you to think about possible house
names and house identities to best capture
what it means to be a member of the South
Hunsley School community.
We would like to thank everyone who put
suggestions forward and contributed to this
winning theme.
We are delighted with the outcome and
look forward to introducing the new theme
when the house system is launched in the
summer term of 2014.

                                               DRACO ORION
  How will the
  system work?
The new pastoral structure will be
based around six houses, with each
house made up of two form groups from
each year group. This will be phased
over four years with an additional form
group added to each new Year 7 from
September 2015. This will not affect
your child’s form and single year form
groups will be retained rather than
moving to mixed age form groups.

                                                                                                03

             VISIT NORTH WALES
            Students experience real life Geography
         Once again the Year

         Snowdon has proved
         to be a popular and
         successful visit, with
         63 AS students travelling
         to the National Park
         to take their learning
         outside the classroom.
Students gathered data on a number of
different geographical features to help with
the work they have completed so far on the
course. As well as investigating fluvial and
         glacial features, students visited Llandudno
to assess how tourism has affected the
town and its development as a resort.
There was also a visit to the Afon Nant
Peris, a small mountain stream running
down the north eastern flank of Mount
         Snowdon where students collected data
so they could compare it to the Bradshaw
         Model; assessing the downstream
         changes of the river.
         Students also walked around Cwm
         Idwal, a spectacular hanging valley
