Snapshot Week 3 Term 4 1 November 2019 Remembrance Day On Monday 11 November (Week 5), Rose Park Primary School will hold a Remembrance Day Service from 12:10 – 12:30pm. Mr. Ken Duthie, Vietnam and Malaysia Veteran and School Military History Officer will be a special guest speaker for the service. We will be offering a prayer as part of this service. If you do not wish for your child to be involved in this whole school event, you’re welcome to collect them from school prior to our service. Families are welcome to attend. Staff Information 2020 We are excited to share the news that two members of our Leadership Team, both Rebecca Weber (Deputy Principal) and Kim Copeland (Assistant Principal) are pregnant and both due to take Maternity leave towards the end of Term 1, 2020. The positions will be advertised internally this term, enabling all current staff to apply, therefore utilising the opportunity to build leadership density and capability across the school. The successful applicants will be assigned roles in Term 1 that will enable them to have handover from the leader along with mentoring whilst also supporting school wide objectives. The Deputy Principal nominee will take on the library role, and support all classroom teachers with their Units of Inquiry along with preparation for our IB school evaluation in July 2020. The Assistant Principal nominee will take on a Special Education teacher role, also supporting the development of ‘One Plans’ for students with disabilities. Congratulations to Michael Porter and Sarah Cole for winning ongoing Permanent Teaching Positions at Rose Park Primary School commencing January 2020. This is a such a positive for our school community and we know they will continue to be outstanding educators in their ongoing role supporting student learning. Year 3 Camp—Aldinga Students in Year 3 classes thoroughly enjoyed their camp at Aldinga Beach last week! Belle – “When everyone had got sunscreen on, we lined up to walk to the beach. It was a very long walk and it was sooooooo hot! When we got there everyone got into their groups and had a scavenger hunt. After that, the staff let us put our feet in the water as a special treat. The water was so cool and nice on a hot day”. Stephen – “We did a cultural pop up session. This session was with Uncle Tamaru, he taught us Kaurna art and symbols. Hr drew a picture with symbols and it told a story, it was quite interesting”. Henry – “Uncle Tamaru taught us about the land of the first nation people in a patient voice and told us about his mother. He told us how she would never talk to a white person since the white people took away eight of her children”. A big thank you to our many parent helpers. The children were extremely impressed with Sam Wallis-Smith’s secret talent; he can play the digeridoo! Second hand Chromebook sale On Monday, Dec 9 (Week 9), we will be facilitating with a second hand Chromebook sale for Parents/ Caregivers in Year 7 who wish to sell their Chromebooks. Further details will be sent to parents in the near future via Edsmart. While the school is not directly involved in the sale, we do recommend that devices for sale meet the following criteria: charger cord, no missing keys, and an undamaged screen. Chess School SA Congratulations to all chess players who participated in the Interschool Chess State Finals held at Tyndale Christian School. Rose Park came 6th out of 13 schools - an amazing effort! Site Improvement Plan Goal: To develop effective writers What's happening in Year 4? Year 5 students have been learning about reviews and their purposes. Students have been provided the opportunity to be reflective inquirers and discuss the various forms of review and the language associated with each. The pictures below show students engaging in a ‘flat chat’. A ‘flat chat’ is a written conversation where students discuss, evaluate and critique a text by posing questions, providing comment and responding to their peers thoughts in a collaborative environment. Brad Schutz, Belinda Monaghan & Caitlin Petrou Parents & Friends Fundraiser The Parents & Friends Committee, in conjuction with Lambrook Wines, are holding a fundraiser. All money raised will go towards the purchase of Soundfield Systems for the school. 'A soundfield System amplifies the teacher's voice to a comfortable level above any background noise to ensure all children in the class can hear well. Background noise has also been shown to reduce in classrooms where a soundfield system is used.' Lambrook Wines, Capital Brewing Co. beers, and Antipodes spirits will be available for purchase directly from the supplier, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the school. Please download the order form here Lambrook Wines Fundraiser. All order forms can be submitted to the school office, or to Lambrook Wines, and payment must be made directly to Lambrook Wines (payment details on order form). The Parents and Friends committee thanks you for your ongoing support.
Science News The Year 6/7’s have been busy in their Science lessons, not only putting their engineering caps on creating models of power plants using equipment from the classroom, but also selling different energy sources in presentations to their classmates. Putting their best persuasive skills on display, groups worked hard to pitch their product to their class in order to win the vote on the question “What form of electricity should Australia invest in over the next 50 years? Students have showed their fantastic creativity and debating skills to sway students to pick their product. The Year 1’s also practised their engineering skills recently; creating spaghetti towers with marshmallows. They investigated the differences between cooked and u nc ooked spaghetti and looked at what properties they had. They had to work in groups to problem solve and find a way to get their towers freestanding and as tall as possible. Musical - Ali Baba & the Forty Bongo Bandits The Year 4/5 Musical – Ali Baba and the Forty Bongo Bandits was a huge success. The production was excellent, with the characters dazzling us with their costumes, wit and sensational acting. Well done to all of our students involved. Special thanks to our Year 4/5 teachers, Janet Parkinson and Hayley Collier for making this possible and providing the students with the opportunity to perform on the big stage. Janet Parkinson & Hayley Collier
