JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWS-EMPOWER ILLINOIS Families helping families-a message from Joanne Policht, Principal of our School Every parent, grandparent, and guardian wants the best for their children – and works unbelievably hard eve- ry single day to make it possible. The Diocese of Joliet and St. John the Baptist Catholic School have part- nered with Empower Illinois to offer eligible families a chance to receive a tax credit scholarship to- wards their tuition. Empower Illinois is proud to help hard-working, passionate, and loving parents give their children the education that is right for them. The Illinois Invest in Kids Program has already been a tremendous benefit to St. John the Baptist students. During the 2020-21 school year, 25 of our students were granted full or partial scholarships totaling just under $100,000. We have set a goal of awarding 35 scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year which would require at least $125,000 in dona- tions. Five scholarships have been awarded for the coming school year and 45 eligible students remain on a wait list pending additional funding. We’re working diligently to increase donations to the program to provide additional tuition assistance to more families to receive a St. John’s education. No donation is too small and would be greatly appreciated as it directly benefits students at St. John’s. Due to two generous donors, there is a matching gift opportunity right now for new donors up to $40,000 in donations. The benefactors are willing to match any donation that St. John’s receives by a new donor to the Tax Credit Scholarship program, 2-1. This tremendous opportunity tri- ples the impact of a new gift to SJB. Not only does the donation benefit students at SJ B, but a tax cr edit amount- ing to 75% of your donation is earned on your Illinois 2021 state taxes. To learn more about the donation process, con- tact Joanne Policht, principal, at St. John the Baptist Catholic School at jpolicht@stjohnwinfield.org or Fr. Jeff Put- thoff at jputthoff@dioceseofjoliet.org
