Editorial Dear readers, An extraordinary year is coming to an end. Drastic changes led to a rethinking of common prac- tices and adaptation to quickly changing circumstances in and out of school. Especially in this difficult situation, it is our main goal to provide our services to the best possible extent and thus to focus on the learning process of our students. While the strengthening of the network of SIS Swiss International Schools has always been part of our conception and is rooted in our educa- tional concept, it gained a new level of importance in 2020. Through our school network, we were quickly able to develop goal-oriented solutions and to work collectively on shared challenges. Locally as well internationally, we worked out and implemented binding protection and learning concepts, taking into consideration the local circumstances. We shared new ways of learning and established an interesting learning process within our network. The period of distance learning inspired teachers and students alike to strike out in new direc- tions and innovate. A good example of this is the collaboration between teachers and students from two of our school locations, Zürich and Regensburg, working together on research ques- tions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic (page 9). This not only resulted in interesting encounters and a blog, but also strengthened the SIS community across countries and more importantly, allowed our students to engage in hands-on investigation into some pressing questions. Another example of creativity triggered by and during remote teaching is described in the report from SIS Friedrichshafen on page 34. While looking for new ways to strengthen the sense of belonging and the school spirit during distance learning, the idea of a whole-school weekly challenge was born. This SIS World appears in a new design and thus also celebrates its tenth anniversary. The look has changed, though the basic idea remains: an emphasis on our educational concept, which is at the heart of our pedagogical approach expressed by a report from each SIS school relating to it. It is a great pleasure to be involved in SIS Swiss International School's development this year. SIS Regensburg moved into a new and modern school building, and in Frankfurt we opened up a new school; the 17th location within our community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and our students from all school locations for their trust and cooperation. I wish you pleasant reading and hope that you will discover the excitement of the many authors who contributed to this edition. The 2010 basic idea of the publication is still valid: an emphasis on our educational concept, which is at the heart of our pedagogical approach, expressed by a report from each SIS school relating to it. Ten years ago, SIS comprised of 150 teachers from 20 countries, 11 locations and 1.500 students. The SIS community has grown considerably since then and it is now time to take account the growing SIS community and give the SIS World a fresh new design and enhance its content by a new rubric – the SIS network. hafen drichs ures & Fig Facts rie n rgarte F Kinde SIS chule 2009 Grunds ium n as ate nd et rgarte Gymn alaure / Gegrü Kinde School Bacc lished ational Estab Primary Intern tory: ers / al Off ge ate afen S gen Colle alaure (IB) ation bot Educ Bacc s Ange rer sa ational r richsh lische Abitu » Leh Schu Intern ma gs- Fried plo gstisch Nachmitta lasse (IB) hool Di Mitta An SIS se über «k choss gh Sc se d schlüs n- un Erdges che as / Ab an Hi Germ Morge reits im deuts Diplom a s M äu läsern sind be sche und engli itere gela- Lunch er scho ol care betre uung W inisch rren vo n Se ktg erk we rden ng so wie we fen, die ha / Early an d aft He s Kli ockw lleitu richs Offers Von Ch ristina und da itten St r und Schu hool Fried Addit ional ewirr .
