PÉTANQUE Petanque is played Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the year, commencing at 1.30pm. Special times may apply to championships and the like, and these will be announced at the time. Club annual singles, doubles and triples championships are held, and an intra-club competition is also held between January and March. Many members enjoy playing Petanque as a social activity; for some however, the fun of the sport expands to bring in the more competitive side. Coaching programmes are provided, at all levels, for members wishing to improve their standard of play. The Silverstream Petanque Club is affiliated to the Wellington Petanque Association, and also to the New Zealand Petanque Association. As well as internal competitions there are a range of regional and National titles to compete for. There are 12 Clubs in the Wellington region most of whom hold fun melees where teams are drawn at random. Members enjoy the social aspects of this unique game where the results can never be predicted with any certainty. Petanque members are active supporters of the social activities of the Silverstream Bowling Club. As part of their membership the bowling members are entitled to play Petanque at any time and it is hoped Open more will take advantage of this and play during their winter off- Mon to Wed 8.30am to 7.00pm season.
