Coaching Appointments
On the back of Leigh Poholkes appointment as Senior Coach of the Sharks for Season 2022, we are
delighted to announce the following appointments: -
o Reserves Coach - Brett Bishop
o Under 19's Coach - Jono Cade
o Senior Assistant Coach - Fab Mastro
Reserves Coach - Brett Bishop
A born and bred Shark, ''Bishy'' played for the
Sharks, and coached the Shark Reserves in
2011/12, where he became a club legend by
coaching the 2011 Reserves Premiership Team.
Deeply passionate, Bishys energy will blast
through the whole club, whilst importantly
providing a solid grounding for the wave of Under
19's as they move into senior football.
Under 19's Coach - Jono Cade
After playing 200 games at Old Trinity, where he
was awarded Life Membership, Jono has spent the
last 8 years coaching various Junior Football
Teams, including the last 5 years at the Sharks
Junior Club, and most recently the Sorrento/Rye
Waves Girls U18 team. With a passion for
developing his own coaching skills and for
developing juniors both in terms of football and
life skills, Jono takes on the Sharks most crucial
role in determining the clubs long term future.

Senior Assistant Coach - Fab Mastro
Having relocated to the Blairgowrie, Fab brings
with him a wealth of knowledge in terms of game
strategy and modern football nous. After a long
playing career at Avondale Heights in the EDFL,
where he captained and gained selection in the
clubs Team of the Decade, Fab moved to Parkside
as assistant coach, where he was a Premiership
Player and B&F winner. We are thrilled to have
Fab join the Sharks - his depth of knowledge and
fresh eyes will be invaluable support to Leigh,
especially in running the match day bench.
2022 Preparations
If we were ever going to miss finals, the Sharks have picked a good year to miss ….. as they have been
cancelled anyway!!!! The other benefit is that we can get an early start on 2022 preparations, and that
is exactly what has already been happening. With the Senior coaching role finalised, and the balance of
the coaching panel well advanced (see above), we are now progressing with our list management and
recruiting activities.
A Recruiting sub-committee has been formed, comprising Anthony Ring, Leigh Poholke, Troy Schwarze,
and Marty Clark. Of course, any tips or links to potential targets will be appreciated – please contact
one of these fine gentlemen or drop an email to secretary@sorrentosharksfc.com.au . Similarly, the
work on Under 19 players will now progress with Jono Cade’s appointment. Once again, any tips will be
much appreciated.
Pre-Season Training is pencilled in to commence on Monday November 15th. (watch this space - that’s
only 9 weeks away!). After a few last quarter fade outs in season 2021, the Sharks are looking to a big
pre-season to re-establish our rightful position on the MPNFL Ladder.
Off-field, we are aiming for an October Annual General Meeting to elect Office Bearers and Committee
for Season 2022 … details to follow.
On the Netball side, we are undertaking a review and restructure of our coaching, whilst also looking to
secure as many numbers for next season as possible, especially via former Sharkettes who may have
missed a season or two due to Uni, babies or other reasons. Please forward any names to David Croad,

Presentation Night due to Covid.
We are planning to hold the event in
