WELCOME Our autumn season at Leeds Town Hall features a host of world-class orchestras, top-class comedy and a great selection of music and family events taking us right into the festive season. We’re delighted to welcome the newly formed Britten- Shostakovich Festival Orchestra on its UK-Russian tour (Thu 19 Sep) – a fitting prelude to Leeds International Orchestral Season in which highlights include the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yuri Simonov (Sat 5 Oct) and Sir Mark Elder conducting The Hallé and James Ehnes in Bruch’s Violin Concerto (Sat 12 Oct). Miloš Karadaglić is guitar soloist in Rodrigo’s much loved Concierto de Aranjuez with the Flanders Symphony Orchestra (Sat 2 Nov), and the city’s own Orchestra of Opera North presents a stunning programme of Janáček’s Sinfonietta and Bartók’s Duke Bluebeard’s Castle (Sat 30 Nov). There’s a feast of comedy including Ben Elton (Wed 16 Oct), Lenny Henry (Tue 29 Oct), and Josh Widdicombe (Wed 11 Dec). Not surprisingly, the fantastic Eddie Izzard (Thu 17 & Fri 18 Oct) sold out before going to press, but you are welcome to join the waiting list for any last minute tickets. Our music programme goes from strength to strength with Lloyd Cole (Tue 15 Oct), Oysterband and June Tabor (Fri 1 Nov), Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Sun 24 Nov), Dweezil Zappa (Tue 10 Dec) and Christmas programmes from G4 (Wed 27 Nov) and the ever popular Kate Rusby (Fri 13 Dec). Plus, the Orchestra of Opera North presents Bowie: A Rock and Symphonic Spectacular (Fri 25 Oct), and its sparkling New Year Viennese Whirl (Sun 29 Dec). There’s family fun to be had in Animal Families and Me with Gordon Buchanan (Mon 4 Nov) and The Snowman and Peter and the Wolf with the Orchestra of Opera North (Sun 22 Dec, 2.30pm and 4.30pm). Whatever the occasion we look forward to welcoming you to Leeds Town Hall. Matthew Sims Head of Arts, Events & Venues 2 3
