SUNNINGHILL June 2019.qxp_Sunninghill mag 2018 16/05/2019 20:02 Page 4 FROM THE EDITOR... A ll our best wishes to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their new baby, Archie Harrison. Whilst we agonise over Brexit, should we... shouldn’t we? Shall we do it this way or that? Whilst we beat ourselves up about contracts, politics, customs, borders and the never ending tricky issues thrown up by this, life goes on, babies are born, people get married, people die. Fortunately there are some people who are guided by their faith and their humanity rather than by what journalists or politicians tell them. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is born to serve, but being seventh in line to the succession, the burden on him should not be too great. Hopefully he will follow in his father’s sense of calling to serve. It’s just a shame that the amount of advice he and his parents are getting from various parts of the Tony Parker media couldn’t be channelled into some other Painter and Decorator more pressing issues! Parents instinctively know how to bring up their children, but are driven QUICK hither and thither by often RELIABLE conflicting advice, as I once found out! WWW.ROYAL.UK FULLY INSURED Congratulations also to Liverpool and Tottenham HONEST & Hotspur football clubs for making the Champions TRUSTWORTHY League final in Madrid on the 1st June both winning their semi-finals against Barcelona and Ajax by overcoming insurmountable odds. We take our hats off to the indomitable spirit of these teams. Perhaps we should put their managers in charge of Brexit?! We need this sort of For general enquiries or attitude in our politics, in our churches, in our daily lives. We do need to be flexible to a point, but everything is too wavery (is that a word?) now. No-one has any firm boundaries, anything free estimates call goes. This is an attitude generally in society that has brought us to the shambles of Tony Parker governance that we now face. We live in exciting times, just keep your faith. on 07711 318527 Mike Cross tel 01344 303991 mobile 07737 088423 4 5

He encourages her to focus on what she wants, in this instance her debt cancelled so her Stephen 8 sons are safe, and to look at the resources she can bring. When we’re in a moment of panic and stress, we so often need friends and wise guides to help us find a solution. The widow has only a small jar of oil but following Elisha’s instruction, she and her sons gather empty jars from all the neighbours and, in the secrecy of her room, the three of them pour oil into the pots. Our churches regularly send crates of books, laptop computers etc for use in the schools and churches there. When we visit we find it useful to make cash donations to projects that we see first-hand, which we feel we would like to support. Money raised from the book sale will go towards this. In order to raise money to take with us this Autumn, WE WILL BE HOLDING A SECOND- HAND BOOK SALE IN ALL SOULS’ CHURCH EACH MORNING FROM MONDAY 22nd JULY TILL FRIDAY 26th JULY FROM 9am TO 12 noon, while the coffee shop is open. So, now JUNE is here, this is the time to sort out your bookcases and donate to us any books that you no longer want, to help raise money for our work in THE GAMBIA. We will be collecting donations of books of all genres, both HARD BACKS and PAPERBACKS for ADULTS and CHILDREN throughout JUNE. You may bring them to ALL SOULS’ CHURCH during coffee shop opening times in JUNE and then indulge in a cup of coffee (or tea) and perhaps a cake too! The coffee shop is open on weekday mornings from 9am to 12 o’clock. You may also bring donations of books for the BOOK BONANZA SALE when the church is open for services, lunches or group activities. Please leave your book donations in non-returnable bags or boxes at the back of the church for me to collect and sort. Please put the BONANZA BOOK SALE date in your diaries: MONDAY 22nd JULY to FRIDAY 26th JULY from 9am to 12noon and bring your family, children and friends to browse and buy books to read during the summer holidays . Contact Sandra Stansfield with any queries regarding the BONANZA BOOK SALE on 01344 883962. 30 31
