It is an autonomous institute devoted to both teaching and research in an integrated manner. IISER Kolkata offers BS-MS (5-yrs integrated masters), post-B.Sc. integrated PhD program, 2-yrs MS (space physics) program for B.Tech students as well as PhD program. IISER Kolkata functions from the Mohanpur campus, which is around 53 kms from Kolkata and is well connected by rail and road with other metros. The distance from Kolkata International airport to Mohanpur is 40 kms. Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER Kolkata One of the first departments to be established at IISER Kolkata was the Department of Chemical Sciences (DCS). From the beginning, the Department has incarnated the Institute's mission of excellence in both research and teaching. The DCS has appreciable strength in the core areas of physical, organic, inorganic, theoretical and computational chemistry as well as in interdisciplinary research areas at the boundaries with physics, biology, earth science and materials science. An extremely wide range of state-of-the-art instrumentations are available in different research groups to carry out the DCS research activity.
