GENERAL INFORMATION TUITION FEES, GRANTS & ALLOWANCES Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Tuition Fees On 6th November 2012, Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) was established as a new There are no tuition fees for EU Nationals. TUITION FEES, GRANTS & ALLOWANCES ADMISSIONS The Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) Admissions to all courses are subject to the regulations and policies of Selskar College The Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) is run by the Department of Social Protection. PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES ENTRY ROUTE 1 All courses at Selskar College offer certification under Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). QQI Since 2015 Selskar College has special links with Waterford Institute of Technology and the operates a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), which consists of ten levels of education Institute of Technology Carlow (to include the IT Carlow Wexford Campus), whereby Selskar and training in Ireland. COURSES ENTRY ROUTE 2 The Higher Education Links Scheme This scheme links QQI Level 5 Certificates and Level 6 Advanced Certificates to reserved places on a variety of Higher Education programmes. QQI applicants submit their Third Level applications to the CAO. Universities and Institutes of Technology both offer places on the scheme but in slightly different ways: • Universities only offer places from a reserved quota for QQI award holders. • Institutes of Technology generally accept applications based on QQI award in open competition with Leaving Certificate candidates; However they may also offer places through reserve quotas for QQI applicants only, for example to some Nursing Degree programmes. There are a number of courses with specific module requirements – for information contact the Admissions Office of the particular Higher Education Institution. There are approximately 38 institutions offering progression links to 3rd level via level 5 and some level 6 awards, for details of participating institutions please view www.cao.ie 11
QQI Level 5 National Certificate 5M2102 RA Reception & Administration Course Description This one-year course is designed to develop the skills required in customer care and customer relations, in conjunction with the IT skills required in a modern office environment. COURSE CONTENT: Students learn to become proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel and also Sage Micropay. Students may also progress to further education at IT colleges and COMMUNICATIONS universities through the Higher Education Links Scheme. QQI Level 5 National Certificate 5M2181 ASS Applied Social Studies Course Description The Applied Social Studies course is designed to introduce students to the area of sociology and applied social studies and to develop their understanding and (with SNA option) awareness of social issues in their own lives and society in general. QQI Level 5 National Certificate 5M1984 ACD Art Craft Design Course Description A one-year full-time practical course providing students with an introduction to the various forms of art and design. It provides an excellent opportunity for students (Portfolio Preparation) to prepare a high-quality portfolio of work for entry into third level art and design courses.
