Student Leadership
How Can You Continue to Help Your Child Succeed
Plan, Organise, Influence • Know your child’s academic commitments (Assessment Calendar) • Maintain an active interest in study including an awareness of your child’s study routine - for example 2 hours “study” compared with 2 hours of STUDY • Supervise internet access and IT usage - phone and gaming
Plan, Organise, Influence… • Exercise as much influence as is necessary. Be careful not to assume responsibility. • Look for ways to make your child’s life easier during peak times – be wary of part-time work. • Negotiate a responsible social schedule.
Nurture Self-Efficacy and Resilience • Encourage self-evaluation and reflection. • Give encouragement. Use constructive criticism. • Acknowledge the good things and focus on the strategies that secure success. • Promote positive behaviour and a growth mindset. • Promote balance and wellness.
Brain Food at QASMT Rationale Many students are travelling long distances to school and often don’t eat until first break. Some ideas to overcome this… • Students bring quick, easy foods for before school or between lesson snacking • No messy foods allowed e.g. oranges and mangoes • Students carry their brain break food to eat in-between classes so they don’t have to go back to their bag. • Promote eating before class and that the canteen is open before school.
