WHY IS NIAGARA HOSTING THE CANADIAN OPEN DATA SUMMIT? Niagara is a world-class destination. In the Open Data context, Niagara is home to an alliance of 12 local area municipalities and other public and non-profit organizations. This alliance aims for thought leadership in the collaborative action required to liberate, publish, analyze and use Open Data from both the public and private sectors. Players in Niagara’s data ecosystem are working together, not only for the sake of Open Data itself – we see the potentially limitless opportunities for civic activists and advocates, entrepreneurs, governments and others to innovate and bolster the vibrancy of our democracies, communities and economy. Our data intensification journey is evidenced by: 1. The new business data analytics program at the Goodman School of Business, Brock University. 2. The startup and expansion of data-intensive companies resident in Niagara. 3. The Niagara Connects focus on #Rethink Niagara, a bold, community-driven data fusion initiative generating evidence-informed insights from combined data and knowledge analysis. Niagara is an iconic rural-urban mix region comprising diverse agricultural sectors and “right-sized” cities, significant natural splendors, a post-industrial economy, a trans-national location rich in Canadian heritage and a federated governing structure. In short, it is a community with abundant assets driving demand for innovation and change. People in Niagara recognize the benefits of the Open Data movement. We are pleased to welcome diverse leaders to amplify this work! DATA FLUENT A GATEWAY A GLOBAL CONNECTION TO POWERED BY GRADUATES BETWEEN NATIONS DESTINATION COLLABORATE PRACTICE Page 3.
