Curriculum Structure 2019 • BV Reads starts at 7.20 am every morning • Lessons are in 55 minutes • A copy of the time-table will be uploaded to the school website • To enhance student welfare in view of long school day: – 35 minutes recess time – 15 minute Snack Break at 12.15 pm – 35 minutes lunch break after school before academic support
Attendance and Punctuality • To support student learning and holistic development: – Attendance in school including CCAs and school activities during term time is compulsory – Valid Medical Certificate or a Letter of Excuse (not more than 4 per term) from parents or guardians – Punctual for school, CCAs and school activities

Types of Assessment • Assessment is integral to the learning process • Teachers will conduct formative assessments to check for understanding throughout the term • For non-modular subjects, only one Weighted Assessment (WA) is conducted in each term (i.e Terms 1 – 3) • For modular subjects, marks from each WA will be distributed within the semester • Marks from each WA and End-of-Year Examination (EYE) will be entered in the MOE School Cockpit System for reporting • Examples of WA include: Common Test, Project, Performance Tasks
Assessment Components for Various Subjects • Information on Assessment Components will be shared to all students by their subject teachers • The weighting for each Weighted Assessment and End-of- Year Examination will be clearly stated • Assessment Components for various subjects can be found in your child/ward’s subject file by the end of Term 1 Week 3 (25 January)

USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES We Discipline Because We Care LEARNING WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS • Students are not allowed to use their mobile devices (Handphones, Tablets) during curriculum hours (7.35 am to 1.50 pm) and after curriculum hours during academic support programme, structured revision and CCA. Such devices should be kept out of sight. Students can only use it when their teachers require them to do so. • For inappropriate use of mobile devices, the school may confiscate the mobile devise as a disciplinary measure or for the purpose of investigation. Once confiscated, the school may require the presence of a parent/guardian before the confiscated device is returned to the student.

CCA Policy in BV • CCA participation is compulsory for all students in secondary schools with at least ONE CCA. • Allocation of CCA is based on Interest, Talent and available resources. • Attendance is compulsory and important. • CCA activities will be suspended during Term 1 and 3 Common Tests, and 2 weeks before Semester 1 and 2 Examinations. 41
CCA Policy in BV • School will assess requests for a change of CCA from students in the mandatory CCA on a case by case basis, and may allow for one change in CCA either at the end of Secondary One or Secondary Two. • Students can only opt for a change at the end of each academic year. 42
