Masonic Morals within Disney In March of 1920, one of the most well-known names in history became the 107th member initiated into Mother Chapter Order of DeMolay in Kansas City, Missouri. Walter Elias Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1901. He had an eventful upbringing mov- ing three times before turning 18, working as a newspaper boy, driving an ambulance for the red cross in World War I, and tak- ing many night classes for the arts. Disney didn’t make it big right away, but his determination had him releasing the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. As Walt Disney would say, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Leading through his uprising into a household name, Walt Dis- ney was still involved with DeMolay. If you saw Walt in public, you would have found him wearing a DeMolay ring on his hand. Walt was granted the Legion of Honor and Founders Cross by Dad Frank S. Land, The founder of the Order of DeMolay. He was later approached by Dad Land to speak to the DeMolays at the first Found- ers’ Conference on him working towards accomplishing his dreams. In his later years, Walt was quoted talking about DeMolay saying, “[In] DeMolay, and I learned to believe in the basic principle of the right of man to exercise his faith and thoughts as he chooses. In DeMolay, we believe in a supreme being, in the fellowship of man, and the sanctity of the home. DeMolay stands for all that is good for the family and our country.” Clearly, the moral values of DeMolay and the masonic fraternity are evident not only in Walt Disney’s own life but entire decades of movies for the World to see.
