Volume 21, Issue 4 A Message from Tom Kirsch ETI National President Hello, to all. We tried to have an in-person ETI National board meeting, but unfortunately didn’t have a quorum. We opted for a phone conference meeting. We discussed our July Convention and the problems the city is placing on us to have the Convention. Hopefully, next month we will have a plan. The corrals for doing a good job of getting in their insurance payments. We still need some corral officers list, so please get your information into the office. The corrals are starting to put on shows and other activities, so please check the magazine for the upcoming activities, and try to support these programs. This is very important to our organization. It is so good to see people out riding. We need to make sure our trails are being used before developers decide to build condos on the land. ETI will be donating to the permanent mounting blocks fund in Griffith Park in honor of Lynn Brown. I think Lynn would have been honored. Hopefully by next month, we will have more information on events for the summer. I want to thank Danielle Skaar for all her hard work putting together a new ETI High Point Program, and thanks to Cheri Ovayan for the outstanding job she is doing with our Jr. Ambassador’s program. This is what makes ETI a great organization... our volunteers. Stay safe, and look out for each other. Equestrian Trails, Inc. ETI National will be donating toward this effort. Lynn was such a great asset to ETI and all equestrians. What a great way to honor her memory! Lynn Brown - Giving a Leg Up to Equestrians For Lynn Brown’s memory to live on and inspire others To honor this amazing woman, we are raising money to put large concrete mounting blocks in Griffith Park with a plaque dedicated to Lynn’s memory. To a non-horse person, a mounting block might sound like a funny memorial. As a rider who gets on and off her horses at Martinez every week, I can't think of a better way to honor a woman who gave so much to us all than to let her memory give us a "leg up" when we ride. If we can raise enough money, we can put several blocks in the smaller parts of Griffith Park serving Glendale and Burbank riders such as Easter Field and Pollywog Park and support other horse initiatives around the park. We have received a unanimous approval vote from the Griffi G iffith hPParkk Ad Advisory i Board B d to iinstallll these h first three mounting blocks. Please give generously to support the memory of a woman who gave so much to all of us, Lynn Brown. Equestrian Trails, Inc. Corral 14 Western Wagons Spring Play Day Written by Linda Elder, Corral 14 Secretary Nora Moran hosted a wonderful Play Day at her ranch The members who came to participate on the course in Barstow, California. The weather was pleasant were Sue and Kevin Martzolf with their team of (sunny with a slight breeze), and Nora had snacks and breakfast items available when we arrived, as well as a cooler with water. There were shaded bleachers for the spectators and participants to sit on, and Corral 66 had set up a raffle as a fund raiser for their Corral. We had a good turnout of Corral 14 members to participate as well as some who just came to watch and cheer us on. The Friday before, Nora, Jeanette Hayhurst, and Sue Martzolf set up a challenging obstacle course and used Sue’s team and wagon to help adjust the distance between the cones and size of the keyhole. The course included a keyhole, turn box, bridge, backing dock, cones/poles and a figure 8. They also included a separate log skidding area. The course was designed so we could drive our teams or singles on the ground or hooked up to a wagon or cart. Before lunch, everyone was encouraged to practice on any of the obstacles and even the complete course if they wanted. Sue Martzolf assisted some of the members in Haflingers, Judy Zimmerman with J d Zi her h ith h horse, M Mark practicing the log skidding. Following lunch we had a “friendly competition”. Jamie Rees, Margaret Graessle, Jeanette Kelley and Jean Bredelis, members of Corral 66, volunteered to be our judges. There was a cheering section of the members waiting their turn to compete as well as the members who just came to watch. Some of the members who came to cheer us on were Katie and Chuck Christman, new members Linette, Wes and Rachel Taylor along with her brothers Michael and JJ, Beth Uzonyi, Jeannie Gordon, and Rick and Janet Maness. I understand that, like a woman, the weather does have the choice to change its mind on a whim, but the variation in a day from hot and sunny to cold and blustery is downright cruel. My son always tells me before we set out on an adventure, “Dress for the hike back, Mom”. Good advice this spring. Dress in layers, and have several latigos on your saddle to tie your discarded 22

There will be no Alpine Glow on the mountains this evening. The warm breeze has turned to an icy blast.
