Baby Bottle Campaign The Baby Bottle Campaign to Benefit the Life Center of Long Island continues… Remember to bring in those baby bottles (filled or not) the weekend of October 23/24. The Life Center is a pregnancy help center that counsels women and men who are experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. The provide free pregnancy test kits, free sonogram referrals, maternity housing with eligibility requirements, medical care referrals and material aid including car seats, cribs, clothes, diapers and many other needed baby items. May every drop of a coin remind you to pray with your whole heart for the lives of all preborn children! Great News! Smithtown….Here We Come! Gloria Schreiber, Chief Executive Officer at the Life Center of Long Island, is honored and humbled to announce the opening in the very near future, of a 4th Women First Pregnancy Options (Life Center) diagonally and approximately 500 feet from the large Suffolk County Surgical Planned Parenthood on Maple Avenue in Smithtown. The Life Center buildings are located as close as possible to abortion facilities. In that way, abortion-minded women unsure of their decision, after observing prayer vigils outside the abortion clinics and talking to sidewalk counselors, may be guided to the Center for further information and the availability of a sonogram. Your Baby Bottle donations are the primary source of income for the Life Center. You have made this miracle possible. We are so grateful for your support. St. E Melville-4

Lord, Hear our Scripture Insights Prayers for Sunday, October 17 th 29 Sunday in Ordinary Time the Deceased The First Reading is probably familiar to us as the Frank Caruso Good Friday reading about the suffering servant of God. From early times, the Christian Church has the Sick applied this image to Jesus. The prophecy of a Lawrence Famighette; Kate Fritzsche servant who would redeem Israel through suffering is John Viviani; Maurice McElligott unique among prophetic books. To say that Isaiah predicted the coming of Jesus is not accurate, but Isaiah did see the world turned upside down by God’s Our Servicemen and Women victory and the restoration of Israel. Mountains Second Lt. Jerry Browne, U.S. Army would be made low, what is crooked made straight, SSgt. James Calfa, U.S. Army rivers run in the desert and those who were SrA Britney Ciccarelli, U.S. Air Force SSgt. Dylan Ciccarelli, U.S. Air Force humiliated and brought low would be raised up. In MSgt. Mitchell Ciccarelli, U.S. Air Force Isaiah’s imagination and poetry, the suffering MST3 William DeGaray, U.S.C.G. servant enhanced the “new creation” God was MIDN Brian Z. DiSalvo, U. S. Navy working out. Sgt. Victor B. Famighette, U. S. Army Those who witnessed the crucifixion and Resurrection Major Thomas Frey, U.S.M.C. of Jesus Christ were trying to describe something Lt. Brendan Johnston, U.S. Navy they had never experienced. Children who are learning Ensign Michael O’Donohoe, U.S. Navy to speak do much the same thing. Early Christian Cpl. Brad John Peck, U.S.M.C. communities found the most apt descriptions for First Lt. Kiersten Spencer, U.S. Army Jesus in the words and prophecies of the Old Sgt. Michael J. Stewart, U.S. Army Testament. For them, Jesus was the fulfillment of Lt. Col. Kent Walsh, U.S. Army those Scriptures because what they read there fit Lt. Frederick Zappala, U.S. Army their experience of Jesus so closely. As Christians, we need the Old Testament to explain the identity of Jesus. The words of Isaiah help us understand the object of our belief; in turn, our belief provides some illumination on the words spoken so long before Jesus. The New Testament quotes Isaiah more than any other Old Testament book except for the Psalms. It is Isaiah’s strong poetry and imagination, as well as his insight into God’s actions in history that make his prophecy such a rich resource for understanding who Jesus is in the life of the world. Isaiah’s description of the suffering one also paints a sobering picture for any disciple who would drink the cup Jesus drinks and follow in his footsteps for the sake of God and the world.
