m e! welctoocamp Dear Caregivers, What a year it has been. We've spent most of 2020 doing one of two things: adjusting to all the challenges the pandemic has brought all of us, both personally and professionally, AND working as hard as we can to develop an amazing return to our Girl Scout camps in 2021. Girl Scout camp is an experience unlike any other! Girls arrive for their first day of camp excited – and maybe a little bit nervous. We understand first time campers may feel apprehension about this new adventure and wonder “Will I make friends? How will I learn to find my way? Will I know anyone in my cabin?” These feelings are quickly replaced with enthusiasm, independence, a sense of belonging, and hopefully a top bunk! She’ll develop a strong connection with nature and learn to help protect it for others to enjoy. In just a week she’ll make new friends and take on new responsibilities. The camp experience is as unique as each girl. Some may find passion in musical theatre, others in the animals they encounter, and some just love the outdoors! We can say with confidence that Girl Scout camp will be impactful and meaningful to every girl. Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment. We offer that, and more! Girl Scout camp is a place where girls can bond with caring adults – role models – who will encourage her to take on challenges without fear of failure. She’ll explore her creative side in singing and dancing, while being inspired by the nature surrounding her. She’ll take risks like reaching new heights on the high ropes or take a brave first step on the low ropes. She’ll learn to take aim at a target with an air rifle or bow and arrow, conquering the challenges of paddling the waters in a canoe, or simply swimming in the pool! She’ll do all this while learning about compassion and empathy as she helps encourage other girls who may not be as confident in their abilities yet - it’s all part of growing into her leadership skills like a go-getter! For 2021, we have worked with the State of Ohio and our local health department to develop a safe operating plan grounded in both state health guidelines for overnight and day camps and informed by best practices developed by the American Camp Association last summer for safe operation. We are proud that our camps offer a safe space where girls can be themselves, interact with girls (and adults) from different backgrounds, and develop outdoor skills! We are excited to welcome girls back to our camps this year, and are committed to providing a safe, enjoyable experience no matter what adventure she chooses! As you flip through the pages of this camp guide, know that there are wonderful experiences waiting for every girl. We can’t wait to start the fun of camp this summer, and we hope your girl will join us!
