Benjamin White, a Columbus East High School junior, has always had a passion for music and he says singing has always been a special part of his life. But they’ll have some- thing else — a special keepsake. All finishers receive a Mill Race Marathon medal, but this year they will have a new look. The medals designed for this year’s Mill Race Marathon on Sept. 25 could become historical keep- sakes for decades to come. While the design of the medals leverages the architecture of Columbus (to- day), the newly designed ribbons reflect images of the past that are reminiscent of the early 1800’s in Bartholomew County. These designs together will commemorate this year’s Bicentennial for Columbus. Since late last year, marathon organizers have been working closely with local leaders and the Columbus Area Visitors Center to incorporate the Bicentennial celebration. After a decision was made ABOUT THE ENGRAVER Andy Spurling Advanced Engraving Cell: 812-314-9862 Online: advanced to utilize the ribbon to feature the historical commemoration, planning committee member David Venable researched several images that would complement the medal of today with a contrast of the past on the ribbon. “Much engraving.net thought was put into the medal and ribbon to contrast of past and present” said Venable “where we celebrate 200 years of growth and change as im- ages on the ribbon reflect some of the same locations where this race is held today.” Race participants who want to customize their medals with their name and finishing time have the opportunity to do so.
