GENERAL Hillcrest Centre - General Information vancouver.ca/hillcrestrec President’s Message It is my pleasure to again address the members of the Riley Park Hillcrest Community Association and those people in the community that use the centre, on behalf of the RPHCA Board of Directors. It’s been a very productive year where we have continued to improve the association for the benefit of all those that use the centre. We are the best run community centre in the city and our Directors and Members should be proud. Ken Charko, President RPHCA Some of the improvements you will notice this year are our new website (www. HillcrestCommunityCentre.com) and the soon to come out RPHCA app. Hillcrest will be the first community centre in Vancouver to develop and use an application, making it even easier to enrol into a program at the Centre or sign up for a class. Thank you to the Board for this innovation and to developers Patrick Kong and David Xu who have volunteered their time and expertise. This year I am proud of the Board’s diligence in keeping the costs of programs down. This includes minimal increases in to the senior programs and a utilization rate in the 90 percent range, all proving what a great job our programming committee has done this year. This is my first letter post civic election. I am pleased to see a new and well-rounded Parks Board will be in place for the next four years. Congratulations the elected commissioners. I look forward to addressing issues and concerns regarding the Joint Operating Agreement and finally coming up with a document we can all be proud of. A fresh Parks Board will bring new and constructive perspectives to our collaborations and promises positive advancements in our shared goal of a signed JOA. We will of course keep you posted through our quarterly published messages and through our website. Congratulations to our new Mayor Elect, Stewart Kennedy. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to speak with Stewart last summer at the Annual Hillcrest Community Festival about our Community Centre. Kennedy expressed his wish for a collaborative effort moving forward. We are encouraged by the positive responsive. I want to thank board members Ray Chang and Olga Zarudina who ran for the Vancouver Park Board this year and did Hillcrest proud by putting forward great policy ideas. I expect to see both these board members on the Parks Board in the years to come. This is also a great opportunity to congratulate the recipients of the RPHCA Community Scholarship from Winston Churchill Secondary School. Emily Chow is pursuing a bachelor of Education and Charles Ding is using his award to begin his undergraduate studies with the intention to pursue a career in law at UBC. Congratulations to both students for showing exemplary commitment to their studies and to the community. A special thank you to our Vice President, Ray Chang who put in countless hours to make this happen. Members and non-members please let me reiterate my availability and the Board’s available to you. Contact me at anytime through my email at President@RPHCA.ca or assistant@RPHCA.ca through the website. I look forward to your comments and feedback. Cheers, Ken Charko PAGE 2 No classes on Statutory Weekends, unless otherwise noted. Winter 2019 Program Guide
