WELCOME Welcome to IRONMAN 70.3 Maine, home of the world-famous Old Orchard Beach. Once dubbed “The Garden by the Sea” this quaint little town brings back childhood memories of a typical summer amusement park and boardwalk vacation spot dating back to 1902. Old Orchard Beach was also the home of the first carousel in the United States. After a challenging 2020 we are pleased to welcome you back to the communities of Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Scarborough, and the greater York County area. With summer winding down this is one of the last weekends to enjoy the summer temperatures before the cooler temperatures prevail. The area is known for some of the freshest seafood and Maine lobster in the New England area. You will find great food and entertainment at every turn. There are so many places to go to and show the family a slice of old times with the quite beach town feel. • While the event draws closer, look back and take the time to reflect on your accomplishment of getting to the start line. • Reflect on the many sacrifices you and your families have made along the way. • Be prepared, but do not over think what you have been doing all along in preparation for one of the most memorable day of your life. • Focus on the discipline you are in at the time. Stay focused on what is in front of you, finish the swim and move on to the bike then on to the run. Enjoy the beauty Maine has to offer. • Enjoy the journey, you will encounter numerous volunteers who will help you along the way. Take a moment to thank them. • A couple notes on schedules: check-in is Friday and Saturday. There will be no Sunday check-in. If you encounter an emergency prior to the event, please reach out to our emergency contact number (813) 484- 6064. • Mandatory Athlete briefings will be held several times during registration hours in the expo area. • Please treat our community like your own. You are ambassadors to our sport. Please set the example for all to follow. Be mindful of your surroundings and be considerate to each other. • Finally, have fun, enjoy the final leg of your journey, and reflect on your accomplishment. I look forward to seeing all of you at the finish line … I would like to thank the communities of Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Scarborough, Gorham, Buxton and the greater York County area for their continued support and the countless volunteer organizations for their continued support of this event while providing grants to their charities. Without these organizations, events like this would not be possible. This is Maine Vacationland and Old Orchard Beach the “Family-Friendly Beach Town Getaway” I support you in your triathlete dream and I look forward to hosting you and your families in Old Orchard Beach in 2021!
